Besides the usual players, I think the two teams most interesting are the two that are playing the top 2 seeds:
Misty May-Treanor / Kerri Walsh (1) vs. Whitney Pavlik / Kelly Wing (32, Q33)
Alexandra Jupiter / Leilani Kamahoahoa (31, Q13) vs. Nicole Branagh / Elaine Youngs (2)
I'm sure they'll get spanked, but it's good to seem them in there. I always thought Kelly Wing was a perfect fit for the beach game.

Holly McPeak / Logan Tom (8) def. Courtney Guerra / Chrissie Zartman (25, Q6) 21-8, 21-11 (0:37) Ouch. That's quite a beating. Could it be that this team has something to prove after their last miserable match where they took their own beating? 206.196.31.34/MatchRecap.aspx?matchid=34009

I'm having fun having a running conversation with myself. I'm quite the conversationalist.
Interesting that for the first two tourneys this year the Lindquist sisters have been struggling. They barely won their first round match today. Are the days for two short players numbered? I think so, I'm sad to say.

Here's another question. Are the results pretty much the same when the competition is on a real beach (deeper sand) rather than the grass-like conditions of hard-packed. I'd be willing to wager that the shorter players have a better chance at the beach. But will the results bear that out?

Good golly gee. These are interesting results. The Lindquists did very well even though they lost. It's my deep sand theory. Nicole Branagh / Elaine Youngs (2) def. Katie Lindquist / Tracy Lindquist (18) 19-21, 21-15, 15-7 (0:50)
Jupiter was very competitive as well. Her partner is short (probably quick in the deep sand): Lauren Fendrick / Brittany Hochevar (15) def. Alexandra Jupiter / Leilani Kamahoahoa (31, Q13) 21-10, 13-21, 15-11 (0:51)

Lindquist sisters knocked out Tom/McPeak 21-19, 21-14 (0:42). They will next meet Wacholder/Turner with the winner advancing to the semis.

I think the key to Logan Tom is her setting. Although she is a great all around player, she is not known for her setting ability. So, my guess is that the Lindquists served tough (Katie Lindquist is #2 in aces in Huntington with 18 aces) to McPeak, causing bad passes and inadequate bump setting by Tom.

#6 BRoss defeated #7 Dodd Minello, 21-16, 21-17 to advance to the next round in the contenders bracket.
Next up for BRoss is #4 DeNecochea / Fontana with winner moving into the semis.

Dang Barbara Fontana is STILL playing?
I went to a women's beach tournament years ago. Other than the top 3-6 teams in the bracket, you see some "interesting" teams and athletes come out of the qualifiers.
My friend Pat used to call these the "ham-n-eggers" when he talked about them on the men's side of the beach game.

There is an article on avp.com talking to McPeak about Logan. McPeak states that with more experience in sand, she believes Logan will be the best sand player in the world. She states she feels Logan is more talented than any of the other partners she has paired with, but its just going to take time for her to adjust her game. I found that interesting considering their results thus far. Though on Friday they did play well having two relatively easy wins and Logan's stats were up from the previous two weeks -- at least that is a good sign she is improving. I think as the season pans out, they will continue to get better together.

All she has to do with LT is to keep her focused......and those of you who know her know what that will entail......can you say "party less?"
