A volleyball network would be great...why not they have one for everything else!!! You'd have to find people or companies willing to fund it for an unknown number of years while it tries to become self supporting.

I don't know how universal this is but I think the Lincoln, NE version of Time Warner is starting ESPNU in June. I was informed that our Time Warner will have ESPNU on the basic digital package (somewhere by ESPN Classic) this summer. YAY! My informant works for ESPN and also said this: the Big Ten network will take MOST of football away, too. The "biggies" will still get the prime ABC slots (like OSU-UM)---only ONE B10 football game on ESPN in a week's span, so Michigan or Wisconsin had better rank #1 to garner those. Our local Columbus Sports Television would no longer televise OSU sports, but she said the B10 network will handle all of that. When I mentioned volleyball, she said that they have to fill 24 hours, so "by all means, yes." Again, she works for ESPN, but she seems to know more than the dialups at TIme Warner. I'm not getting my hopes too high yet, but there's promise to get more VB matches on disk!

I really think the priority here is to get good time slots for volleyball and get on TV as much as possible. Even local channels can televise games. I was in Hawaii recently and saw the entire high school wonens basketball championships were televised. It's up to area fans and schools to push coverage.

A few clarifications...
Big Ten volleyball will still have its appearances on ESPN as always. Games that are not picked up by ESPN2, will be available to the Big Ten Network for broadcast. Not all matches will be picked up, but they do have plans to do several, many more than typically have been done by ESPN and Comcast.
The BTN will be available in nearly every media market within the eight states that house Big Ten schools. The agreement that is being made with the cable companies is to make the BTN part of their basic or expanded basic package. You will not have to get DirectTV to get it.

Time Warner will not reply to my emails. Boy, if I'm a day behind w/ my payment though, they're right there. I hope you're right!

Anyone named groovychic automatically has credibility -- in my book anyhow.

The network is holding an online chat with the new TV network's director. It is on Thursday, starting at noon. Mark it on your calendar so we can get in some specific questions about volleyball. Crap. I can't do it. Will there be a transcript? snickers, keep us informed!

Anyone named groovychic automatically has credibility -- in my book anyhow. I don't trust anyone who considers themselves groovy, unless they are a 33 1/3 rpm phonograph record. I especially don't trust groovychic. She is too much 78 rpm for me. And the lack of a K on the end of her name sounds sinister. Although when it comes to matters of the media, she does speak with authority. But she does so with shifty eyes.

She's groovy and chic. But now that you mention it, maybe HE's groovy and chic. Either way, I trust it.

I'd really like to see the BTN available on the basic cable in my area.

It seems like from what I read, that they are going around to each Big Ten school and giving presentations, but seems to me that they are stuck in Minnesota. When are they coming to Purdue? I have asked various places if they are carrying Big10 TV, and it is too new. The sales drones don't know diddly about it, yet.

AT&T is trying to negotiate cable rights in some states and is getting significant pushback from Comcast. I wonder why.
What'll happen with web streaming service ? I never found this technology to be very good.
