Nice to see that Blatt is getting some prime-time recognition.

I tell you Blatt is impressive. Obviously each one of these girls are if they're being looked at. If Bateman or Gates get selected over Blatt then the setting position is in amazing hands because I've seen her play and it's pretty.
Good luck to all the young ladies. Enjoy the experience.

Blatt is stellar athlete with great hands. I'd say the advantage Bateman has over her at this point is placement, control. But Blatt's a better athlete.

If the setting is ok, this is a great team. I'd love to see Dorton and Worth on the floor together. Great energy and athleticism.

Gravity has just shifted. ONE girl from So Cal on the YNT inivitation list. That has to be a record in terms of geographic diversity at this level? The JNT this year is half So Cal girls, and going back a couple of years at least, JT's senior aces, the YNT, and the JNT have been much more heavily filled with California girls.
Others can reply that California has received undeserved weighting in the past; you can make that argument and be largely wrong, as year in and year out, the best college teams have statistically had more California players, with very notable exceptions. But my question is: does this YNT list reflect a one or two year downturn, or a permanent shift away from the dominance of California in general (and So Cal in particular) at the youth level?

Seems like Illinois and California will always lead the way. This year, there's more Illinois kids.
Ohio's been producing quite a few lately, too. Thing is, when you're dealing with elite teams like these, it's easy to make hasty generalizations.

Farmwatcher, take a look at the results of the last five years in jr volleyball championships. You will see places like Louisville, Muncie, Milwaukee, Chicago as many times if not more than California. The "California" dominance thing is way over. California is now "one" of many places that produce great talent, and per capita, is fairly low.

Keystonekid: you are absolutely right when it comes to teams; California does not in any way dominate the team results. And you are also right that one reason California has tended to have more individuals at a higher level is that there are more people in California to begin with. Am not trying to re-start old regional debates.
WHat I was noting or questioning is, is this the first time that, as individuals, as opposed to teams, that California has so few representatives on a national youth team. I am going to go back and look at JNT and YNT rosters and Aces lists, and I think we might find that the Class of 2008 is unusually light in representation from California...that's all.
