Personally I think they should continue to play div.3 schools untill they can offer scholarships. What do you guys think?

Nah, they are getting better. Plus, the school isn't that expensive so they don't really need scholarships, and on top of that, its one of the better universities as far as academics go in the UC system.

I read where they beat LBS in the weekend tourney at Las Vegas. They've been pretty good for a while now. Being a UC school that's affordable they can recruit without having to give scholarships, much like UCLA does. A lot of kids go to get special admission status. They need to at least offer that. UCI got their full scholarship funding this year. I don't know why UCSD couldn't work toward that to field a D-1 team soon. They're already playing D-1 quality VB.

Could someone explain to me how a school can be DI in some sports and non-DI in other sports? I thought it was all or nothing.

I think in minor men's sports, they allow it, since there are not enough schools to make a decent conference. Again, I think.

I know BYU-Hawaii's men's waterpolo is ranked something like 13th in the nation in a poll that also listed Stanford. Not sure what Stanford was ranked, but, they were in the top 5. I also recall BYU-Hawaii playing with quite a few D1 teams this season as well.

Do you really think LB was playing its best team in this off-season practice game? The off season is for experimentation and playing the new guys too. It's the only time you can see what you're 2nd and 3rd string guys can do in competition. LB was not playing their best team in that match. These games are meaningless for standings; but are super valuable for evaluating your players.
