Now I only started following college volleyball in late 2004. I live in the Boston area, so my live volleyball matches were Northeastern, Harvard and Boston College. I was always extremely impressed with Allison Anderson, but now she is on the National Team?!?!
Wow. I know she was from California originally. Was she ever recruited by other schools? I'm just curious why she chose Boston College. Anyone think she has a chance with the National Team?
Thanks

Well - she played at Campolindo HS in Moraga, where she was a hitter. I never saw her play, although I know her coach there. I only started following Campo after she had already graduated.

I know nothing about Allison Anderson, but it is quite possible that like a lot of players she was not tall enough (at 5'9") to be recruited as a front row player so she received a scholarship at a smaller school. The practice of giving schollies to defensive players is still pretty new. She probably was recruited at BC as a hitter and was converted to a libero.

Converted to libero in her soph season, when she averaged 5.47 digs/game.

It was my pleasure to watch Allison play club ball at Golden Bear, where she was an outstanding OH. I'll bet those who watched her as the go-to hitter on a team that won the Bronze in 18-Open were convinced she attacked high, hard, and smart enough to hit at the DI level. As I recall, Allison picked BC because it was the best school for her. Not simply the best volleyball program that extended a scholarship offer, but the right combination of academics, environment (physical, social, etc.), and -- yes, athletics. I don't know what went into the decision to make the move to libero, but Allison did set an NCAA record for digs in a match and after graduation the USA National Team decided she merited a shot. So I'd have to say it worked out pretty well.

What I saw of her as a HS senior was HUGE drive and intensity...and fierce determination to get better... do tons of HS players have that? yes do they still have it in spades 4 or 5 years later? Quite often not. Allison has worked hard very very hard for this shot as a keeper on the NT. We all wish her well!!!
