Got a question for you guys out there. When was the last time a team beat another team 4 times in one season to win a national title. This stems from the discussion about Long Beach and BYU possibly meeting in the championship round.
In 2003, 2000, 1995, and 1994, the MPSF teams didn't meet in the finals, as a MIVA or EIVA team won in the semis.
2002, Pepperdine won the first 3 matches with Hawaii winning the championship match.
2001, BYU played UCLA only twice; once in the regular season and in the championship match.
1999, BYU won one regular season match, the MPSF finals, and the championship match against Long Beach but lost a match against them in the regular season.
1998, UCLA won the 2 regular season matches and championship match against Pepperdine, but lost the MPSF finals against them.
1997, Stanford lost the only regular season match against UCLA but won the MPSF finals and championship against the Bruins.
1996, UCLA split with Hawaii in the regular season and also won the title, but didn't meet Hawaii in the MPSF tournament.
And anything before 1994 gets fuzzy. Any help would be welcome.

Roy, i've thought this many times in the past in reading your postings. You always put out good questions, whatever you're aspiring to be, dump it and become an SID. Then you can come on here be our informational informer.
With all the lazy SIDs out there, you would be great!

It's hard to find data from that far back, but UCLA beat CSUN 3-0 in the 1993 Championship match, and I'm pretty sure they beat them in the MPSF tournament as well. Only question would be how many times they played in the regular season and the results.
In 1992, Pepperdine beat Stanford in the final, but I think (not sure) that Pepp was the at-large and Stanford was the WIVA tournament champion.
1991, LBSU upset defending champ and #1 seed USC in the final.

Some try but don't have the support or budget or worse yet, interest. And, great point about roy. He would make a good SID. There are a few others on this board who would make excellent SIDs. That's the problem with society, the right people are not matched up with the right jobs/professions. Of course, you have to take away the $$$ from the equation.

LOL. Thanks for the vote of confidence cougarize and EEO. Maybe something I would look into later on in life, but for now, I am pretty happy.
I just like this kind of volleyball history. I think these odd facts are kind of cool. But thanks for all the help in trying to dig up this info. I am sure it will come if Long Beach and BYU meet in Hawaii. They will Marlow and Cox will probably be commentating in the match and it will come out then.

During the broadcast, if this topic comes up, I expect either Marlow or Cox to mention me and answer my question. After all, I already did some of the legwork for them. We know that its been over a decade since it has happened. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

In 1990 The Beach beat USC twice in the regular season to lose to Jim McLauglin's team in the final. Jim still ocmments on that season. His finest moment to date.
In 1991 USC beat The Beach twice in the regualr season and lost in the final game to The Beach. It was Ray Ratelle's finest moment.
