I was watching my kids play some Beach VB this summer, 4 players per team, and I decided that I liked it a heck of a lot more than the two player version. More plays, more blocks, more rallies.
I thought I read something awhile back, maybe in one of the VB magazines about this version of the beach game.
Does anyone have any info or links they could send?

Thanks. It would be nice to see the 4 man game develop.
Anyone from Jacksonville have information on that areas beach opportunities? 2 or 4?

I also think a 4 person beach volleyball format would be more interesting to watch. However, would it be possible to keep a match within the allotted TV time? That will be the big question.
2 person just seems too boring.

I love 4's, but why does it have to be "beach only?" Or does it?
Didn't there used to be a pro-4 league? Pity its gone.

I think beach volleyball is like soccer; that is, both are great-fun participation sports but crappy spectator sports.*
*I know, I know...the folks in Europe and South America will disagree with my assertion that soccer is a crappy spectator sport.

Blow me. I would actually watch 4 on 4 beach volleyball. That 2 on 2 stuff is lame, i would hardly call it volleyball.

I agree, the 4-man is much more exiting than 2. I watched the manhattan AVP 4-man and it was really fun to watch. Too bad the cameras weren't rolling as it was more dynamic and more top athletes to watch in action than the boring 2-man.

Do they use a regular size court or two player sized beach court for four person beach volleyball? And are only the front two able to block/attack, or three of the four?

Each team had to have 8 on a team with four guys and four girls. In the morning, the men would compete as 4 on 4 against the male half of the other teams and the women would compete as 4 on 4 against the female half of the other teams. Then in the afternoon, they would have two teams of coed 4 on 4. Each coed team would be playing at the same time so once you started against another team, you could switch players but you could then switch for the next team you played. Your selection of teammates had to be pretty careful because you need good setters and diggers on both men's and women's teams. It was a very popular format.

Pay no attention to Wolfgang. He doesn't actually care for volleyball. I'm kindof curious to know what drives him to post such bizzare babble all the time. The only time he seems to make sense is when is talking about campus life / distractions, like if somebody goes to town on a player for getting in trouble for drinking underage, and he points out that the majority of underage students on most college campuses drink.

I have ignored him for sometime now, so I wouldn't really know, but I came to the conclusion a long time ago that he isn't interested in volleyball, and has never contributed anything remotely useful in that regard.

Hey the 4-person pro league from the early 90's was way more fun to watch than the AVP back then.
AVP you had Kiraly/Steffes winning 17 tournaments a season. *YAWN* Lots of whining and posturing and the whole stupid clock thing they tried to implement.
The four-person tour you had Olympic Gold Medalists like Doug Partie, Scott Fortune, Jeff Stork, Dusty Dvorak all playing. You had real offenses, with quick attacks in the middle and combo plays. You had longer rallies with two person blocks and people digging behind the block. Of course, you had arrogant @$$%*!*s like Jeff Williams as spotlight players, but oh well if you turned the sound down during his TV interviews and went to go get another soda from the fridge and more chips, you didn't have to deal with that. LOL.
Too bad that league didn't last. Tried to build it around Gabby Reece on the women's side. Nothing against Gabby I think she's a decent person, but from a volleyball standpoint she couldn't sell compressed air to a Tachikara ball factory.
