Sorry to hear that (about finding it out from your Dad). That is really sad!! Hope you have a great year next year ... but it's gonna be IPFW in the final four next year!!! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D

I would have said they had to be considered one of the favorites until I read that Santiago has bailed and is now playing in the Superior League in Puerto Rico. Matt Z and the other boys are going to have to find themselves a setter someplace. That is a major blow to IP.

It is true!
Santiago to Forgo Senior Season
Fort Wayne, IN- IPFW men’s volleyball setter Dennis Santiago has informed the Mastodons that he will pass up his senior season in order to play professionally in Puerto Rico.
The native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, had been IPFW’s starting setter for the past three seasons.
In 2004, Santiago averaged 11.55 assists per match, and was part of a team that led the MIVA in blocking. Santiago put down 1.15 per game. He also averaged 1.78 digs per game and totaled 161 points on the year.
Santiago was named to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association’s All-Conference Second Team, in voting conducted by coaches, at the end of April.

Just to clarify, every single coach has a PR person working on staff with them. No, I am not the Lewis SID, but I know him and he's a great guy and I'm sure Dave did this without his knowledge. SID's cannot be held accountable for stupid things people say to the media. We only advise them and set up the interviews (on most accounts). They're big boys, they can handle the consequences.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Midwest ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) It really sucks for a program when they have a key guy like that bail.

I wonder about the far-reaching affects of the NCAA rulings. Coaches now have to reclear their players, players have to come clean to their coaches, players will move and coaches will quit. This all could have been avoided if a simple grandfather clause was inserted into the rules...an amnesty of sorts.
Borderline players now have to transfer to BYU. BYU has shown that they have the resources to quickly solve NCAA issues, while obtaining the results not found in the Hawaii and Lewis cases. This dichotomy is sad.
My only wish is that Daves parting shots could have been written by members of this board. You guys know who you are.

It makes you wonder if Matt (5th yr senior) and some others will be back as well. I hope, but doubt, that IPFW has a contengency plan. Nothing against him, but I don't think the current back up setter is it!! You're right ... this really does suck!!!

Wow, after reading all of the articles this is a mess. Much deeper than anything we suspected. There seems to be a great deal of animosity between the administration and the athletic programs.(to state the obvious) Sad for their men's volleyball program. Whoever takes over will have an uphill battle just to get their feet on solid ground.

Three coaching vacancies in the MIVA! Doesn't seem to bode well for the conference. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

If the MIVA starts to fail, it doesn't bode well for Men's Volleyball.
