"It's this kind of nit-picky, immature, petty b.s. that is going on in the MIVA that is hard to put up with," Deuser said.

Ok for the record I will state that this is not a bash lewis post. From everything I have heard and read the Lewis administration is working hard to bring them into line with NCAA and conference guidelines, but the coach..... I don't think he gets it. All I'm seeing from Dave is a persecution complex, and what can only be described as arrogant disregard for conference and NCAA policies.
Are they being focused on because they are winning? Undoubtedly. When you win people will take long hard looks at the way you do things. If you are doing things the right way then people will begin to give credibility to the program. When you don't do things the right way you don't get any credit for what you accomplish.
Dave is airing his displeasure to the Hawaii press about the outcome of his latest poor decision, which is where the above quote comes from. Now I'm not going to get into why I think its inappropriate to air conference issues on a national stage. Suffice to say its stupid, and creates hard feelings within the conference. Lets address the jersey issue. Lewis was the low seed at the MIVA tourney. They would be wearing the away (dark) jersey no matter who their opponent was in any match. The question is why would they even bother bringing white jerseys for anyone other than their libero? Watching that match on CSTV you saw 12 guys on the floor wearing dark shorts and white shirts... Things like that make the conference and the sport look like a back country amatuer. Is it nit picky for someone to complain about it? Possibly, but certainly relevant. More than that its beyond comprehension how a coach who's program is getting a lot of scrutiny, as Lewis is, would allow that to happen and give their detractors more amunition. There is no excuse for that. Didn't have time to wash their jerseys? Are you serious? Takes an hour and a half tops to get that done, and you have all day to do it. Its either ignorance in just not thinking about it, laziness to just not make the effort, or arrogance to ignore a known protocal. Those are the only possible reasons to even bring white jerseys in that situation let alone actually wear them.
Ok then Coach Deuser compounds things by having 2 ineligible players go up to receive the championship award. Now before the Lewis fans go off on how they havent been declared ineligible it should be pointed out that eligibility as I understand it is reestablished on a yearly basis. If a player has not been declared eligible he is defacto ineligible. Best case scenario he is sticking a thumb in the eye of some midwest people by making that move, and worst case scenario he is violating NCAA rules which preclude ineligible athletes from participating in competition related activities.
Again we are talking about either gross repetitive ignorance or just blatant disregard.
Coach Deuser needs to do himself and his program a favor start making some smarter decisions, because until he does all the athletic accomplishments(which have been notable) will never receive the credibility they deserve.
