gee bob, you sure are good with stats... so what school were you the student asst. manager for??? drop the attitude and pay some respect where it is due... lloy is one of the top setters in the world. and lets think about it, you just brought up a story from how many years ago??? he was in college... yes you sure do know your volleyball, congrats. but he is still yet to be beat out by anyone in the states. and if you are still criticizing people about tonights game, my question is what would you know about hte pressure of playing in a final four match? Uhm...hello? Pressure playing in a final four match? If you love volleyball, and love playing volleyball, what pressure would there be? Only people like you that get stressed out playing in your Rec League C-division championship feel the pressure.

The Ball thing was a long time ago, let it go! Do you think that maybe he's changed and matured a bit since he's now 30 something? That was 10 years ago for crying out loud! Do I think he's changed? No, I do not. The things that make a great setter, a great volleyball player, a great competitor, are imprinted early in life. Once you reach adulthood, that never changes. Great setters are great leaders and can rally a team around them during critical junctures. Dvorak had it, Stork had it. Ball doesn't have it and never will have it. I'll be watching Athens with great interest. When things start going bad and Team USA needs someone to rally them up and get to business, I will watch Ball's body language and facial expressions closely. I hope I will not be dissapointed to see the same thing I saw in Atlanta and Sydney.

are you kidding me? you have just proved my point. its smart a$$e$ like you that think its sooooo easy. you have no idea what its like playing in front of a nationally televised audience, against a team that is at an even level that close to winning a NC... its not backyard picknic family ball. you are rediculous. shouldnt you go be living vicariously through someone from byu or something right now since they are playing at the time??? that is your style right... or are you going to tell us how bad moreno is if lewis pulls the upset? freaking weiner.

If you're in a big match, and you're looking around at the crowd and the TV cameras instead of focusing on the court and what needs to get done, then you don't have it. I give praise where praise is due. I don't buy into the hype that just because a player has credentials, that they're actually any good. I have no opinion on Moreno.

Ball has won two European Championships, don't you think that may say something? We talked about this ad nauseum in the past. Any team in Italian Serie A1 that has Giani, Gardini, Goertzen, and Iakovlev on it is very, very good. Do you think it was Ball that led this team? I don't think so. I think if Gardini looked at him the wrong way, Ball would cry.

So, you're saying there are better setters for the National Team and Beal won't take them because he's so stuck on Lloy. That doesn't make sense, his reputation is on the line here, he can't afford another bad showing at the Olympics.

Since of the people here weren't around when we talked about this before, I will reiterate my position on Ball:
I don't think Ball is a very good international setter, but he is the best that the USA has right now.
What Ball does well: -Set the offense when it's in-system with good passing -Jump serve
What Ball doesn't do well: -Run the offense out-of-system and off bad passing -Play defense -Block -Lead the team (real leadership, not just being vocal and pretending to lead) -Play through adversity

Ok, you're entitled to your opinion. I honestly haven't seen enough international games to have an opinion.

bob, you have obviously never played in a big title game... its ok to admit it most havent. but all the stuff you say that doesnt make a difference... I.E. tv, and whatnot, does make a difference. to everyone that is playing wether you think so or not. and ball has also had some amazing setters pushing behind him. like taliferro, quinones, and siefert. quinones led the hotvolleys to the finals last year... pretty sure lloy is good. and you are still a weiner, bob.

name calling just shows pure immaturity. We are all entitled to our own opinion that is the beauty of this forum. Bob obviously follows a lot more than college ball, which most of us do not have the priviledge to do. Let him have his opinion, oscar mayer. "o) get it no name calling ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ) and yes I had to sing the song to get the spelling correct ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ) Right now the concern is.....with the bombing, we will even be at Athens?

Right now the concern is.....with the bombing, we will even be at Athens? Bombing is the least of Athens' problems, what with all the incomplete building work. Right now, if a bomb went off at most of the Olympic venues, you'd be hard pressed to tell when the smoke cleared.

Lloy is a good setter. He would not have got near the national team otherwise. But the reason Taliaferro and Seiffert didn't displace him is time on task. Ball had been setting the national team for 6-7 years before either of these guys even joined the squad. Give Taliaferro the same amount of time with the team and maybe he would have beaten out Ball. Then again, maybe he wouldn't have - but the point remains, experience matters.
