Steve Klosterman of Huntington Beach Marina High, considered the top boys' volleyball recruit in the nation, has committed to UCLA.
The 6-foot-7 opposite hitter, a two-time All-Southern Section selection, was selected the most valuable player at the USA Junior Olympics championship last summer after leading his club team to the 18-and-under championship.
Klosterman chose UCLA over Long Beach State and Pepperdine. USC, Hawaii and UC Irvine were among the schools that offered Klosterman a scholarship. He will sign a national letter of intent on Nov. 13.

That's great news for UCLA and bad news for everybody else. Klosterman is a wunderkid. He is going to be for men's vb what Logan Tom was for women's vb.

You are absolutely correct Zurich. That's way too much pressure to put on anyone, especially someone who still has a senior year in HS to play out. There's way too much talent in the men's game to be making predictions like that comparison. And there's way too much talent at UCLA to know how anyone will do at the next level.

Vince is a JC transfer that should fill some hitting holes at UCLA. He looked realllllll good last friday at the alumni game. Here's the article from the website.

Klosterman is a great prospect, but in no way is he another "Logan Tom". He does have great potential, though.

With Mount and Komer gone from last year's squad, it will be interesting who Coach Scates starts this year.
It may look like this:
Adam Shrader, 6-3 LIB Rich Nelson, 6-3 S Scott Morrow, 6-9 MB Chris Pena, 6-6 MB Jonathan Acosta, 6-4 OH Parker Smith, 6-4 OH David Russell, 6-7 OH
Who knows what Coach Scates has waiting behind the "Blue Curtain."
P. Nihipali M. McKinney (after B-Ball Season) A. Vince P. Johnson B. Prahler M. Shubin

I do agree by saying Klosterman is by far the biggest recruit this year but he is definitely not the next Logan Tom. First you gotta realize he is already 18 and as old as most freshman in college which means he's playing mostly against kids younger than him right now which helps contribute to his dominance.

You play your own age, or up in club. He was named the 18s MVP as a young (one month) 18 yr old, which is not an advantage. I believe the comparison to Logan has already been squelched.

Klosterman DID play his age. He was too old to play in 17's. He HAD to play 18's this past year because he was too old. He will be older than almost every player this year in 18's.

With Acevedo now signed with UCLA....does this give them the best class of the year. Two huge pickups.
Also Guermilllo Diaz is out of Volleyball....playing basketball in Florida....I hear. Should open up some more money for other players as that kid had a free ride anywhere in the country.
