"Scouting Texas Coach Jerritt Elliott (133-56 in seven seasons at UT) brings the Longhorns to town for Wednesday’s Big 12 opener with a 4-2 record and a four-match win streak. Texas dropped a pair of matches to No. 3 Penn State in State College the first weekend of the season, but Texas has roared back with four straight wins, including a victory over Pepperdine on Friday night. The Longhorns finished 2006 with a 24-7 record and a loss to NCAA runner-up Stanford in the regional final in Austin and were picked second by the Big 12 coaches in the league’s preseason poll. The Longhorns are led by sophomore outside hitter Destinee Hooker, who is second in the Big 12 averaging 4.67 kills per game. Freshman outside hitter Juliann Faucette is eighth in the Big 12, averaging 4.00 kills per game, while senior All-American middle blocker Brandy Magee is second in the Big 12 in hitting percentage at .456 after missing nearly all of 2006 after knee surgery. Texas has been without one of its top players in sophomore All-American Ashley Engle, who has not played in UT’s last four matches. Senior setter Michelle Moriarty guides the Longhorn offense to a .285 hitting percentage, a total that is third in the league." from the NU preview Does this scouting report make the NU preview that much better than the UT preview? I agree with you that TexasSports.com could a better job in actually scouting the other teams. But to imply that NU's preview is soooo much better, because they have 2 paragraphs called "Scouting Texas", is wrong. The NU content regurgitates just as much. For total regurgitation, refer to both teams' pdf links. We are lucky to have VB programs that at least promote their matches. Since most school media, including NU & UT, don't do a very good job of scouting opponents, we are forced to read thread after thread on VT. Thank goodness for VT

The Austin Statesman's article on the Texas-Stanford regional final took Coach Elliott's spin to their bosom, blaming the loss on the Longhorns' youth and inexperience and drastically overvaluing their raw athletic ability. By the size of the fishhook in his jaw, I'd bet that reporter sincerely believes that basketball games are won by the team that throws down the biggest jams.
