What a sad moment for Cal Poly...3 years of grinding, super achievement RUINED in one fell swoop. Trust me, Xavier had no business winning the match. Perhaps Cal Poly has simply been overachieving all this time. They have NEVER had the resources to perform at the level they have...when they beat Hawaii last season, Dunning said that "it was crazy but it's cool". After going down to the Xwomen, I am crazy and it is EXTREMELY UNCOOL.

What were the keys to the match, coach? Why did X win and CP lose? What was the turning point? Which rotation of your team suffered the most?

i think a lot of people underestimate xavier or any under dog for that matter. they were hungry when they played michigan and went after them. michigan eventually woke up enough to get themselves in gear before it was too late. i am not surprised they xavier beat a quality team like cal poly. I got to give props where its due. On any given day any team can beat another team. I am really enjoying this year of volleyball thus far. i hate predictable seasons and matches
edited for grammar lol

Yeah, on any given day yadda yadda yadda, but upsets like Xavier over Cal Poly don't happen very often. Thus, they are a shock when they do.

Let's see, Cal Poly loses to Xavier, who was swept by Marshall, who was swept by Western Kentucky, who was swept by Dayton, who is undefeated. Does this mean Dayton should be top 10??

Damn - I really thought Cal Poly was going to challenge for a Top 16 seed and for a shot in the Elite Eight, but the way they are playing... yikes. Is the loss to Penn state indicative of their capabilities, or the loss to Xavier? At this point, we'll never know until NCAA's roll around, since the Big West isn't as strong as it used to be.

It is true..."on any given day" The yada yada yada guy is correct as well, to the extent that an upset like that should just not happen to a quality program like Cal Poly. But I would argue that the teams that can avoid such unabashed blemishes are those team with either: A. A "go to" stud who can get it done under the most dire circumstances. Or B. They have a special type of "grinta" - an Italian word that means having heart, grit, and mental toughness that shows itself under the most adverse circumstances and most importantly, is developed through day in and day out hard work in the gym. Knowing Poly's coach the way I do...I can tell you that the loss is devastating to he and his staff. It seemed that there was no turning point - Poly just NEVER had any player step up and lead in any way. It was a littany of uncommitted, playing not to lose volleyball. A real shame.

But give credit to Zavier...they kept it together long enough to pull off a big one.

What really sucks for Cal Poly is that they got to #6 in the Pablo Ranking, and because of the weakness of the Big West, they will be hard pressed to make a move toward an NCAA seed. Also, I think they are on the brink of signing some top level kids and what with the balance of power a single loss can hurt Poly. they have to work so much harder to secure those kids. So for what it's worth, Poly is where you oughta go you young studs. They will be in the Final Four soon. They are great coaches and they are doing all the right things. Go Poly

I'm actually really disappointed in Kylie Atherstone's performance this year. Last year, she was such a force to be reckoned with and this year... I'm not sure why she hasn't performed like she can. Hopefully she'll be able to pick it up during conference and gain momentum heading into NCAA's.
