FWIW - I think the "vbjonny" handle has been turned over to a friend of Coach Stevenson. I think it might have been mentioned earlier.

volleytalk.proboards88.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1165436348&page=11I think Coach Stevenson gave up trying to post anything here after a list of 20 strange to bizzare questions were given. Note the use of the third person to describe Coach Stevenson along with the possibly inadvertent misspelling of "A Friend". Too many strange questions for Jon to answer...I know the NCAA Championship is his goal. He took St.Mary's from #247 to #9, and now, Cal Poly, from #233 to the 15th seed in the tournament. He HAS been out of Cali...try U of Wyoming for one. Around the world as an athlete for two. He was player coach of his A1 team in Italy in mid-80's. He ok.ed me to post after regretting when some not-so-informed talked smack re:AVP. As player President, Jon helped players earn over 25 MILLION!!! Indiana is in the Big 10. Support is all he needs. A Freind

Let's see, Cal Poly loses to Xavier, who was swept by Marshall, who was swept by Western Kentucky, who was swept by Dayton, who is undefeated. Does this mean Dayton should be top 10?? No -- it means Cal Poly should not be in the Top 10 -- I see a big drop coming.

Xavier is to volleyball as Appalachian State is to football?
OK, maybe a little bit of overheated hyperbole there. But perhaps appropo.

Seriously - Jon Stevenson was posting here as "vbjonny". I personally verified it. Then Wolfie scared him off with so many bizarre questions and I guess he sent in an intermediary on his behalf.

BYU beats Wisconsin, Cal Poly beats BYU, Xavier beats Cal Poly, UNLV beats BYU. . . . . . I think there's a huge drop after Nebraska and Stanford-the rest are crap shoots. Wish Washington had played somebody so we knew where they are.

Xavier is to volleyball as Appalachian State is to football? OK, maybe a little bit of overheated hyperbole there. But perhaps appropo. A lot of people seem to be dismissing Xavier as a weak team, but they are well-coached, fundamentally sound, play great defense and pass extremely well. When their passing is on, their setter is adept at running a quick offense, and it's difficult to get a double block on any of their hitters. There is great timing between the setter and middles. Their hitters are not physically imposing, but can find the open spot on the floor when faced with single blocking. They're not a big blocking team, but can slow the ball down at the net enough for their backrow to set up their transition attack. Any team that can't serve them out of their system is in for a rude awakening.

Xavier is to volleyball as Appalachian State is to football? No, they have a good team. Ohio played them in their last spring tournament. They matched up with us better than any other team in the tournament (which included Cincinnati, Illinois, and Northwestern).

2 things come into play. 1. Xavier is a good team. Just cause most people haven't heard of them, doesn't mean they aren't. The state of Ohio has a lot of very good teams and there is a boatload of prep talent in the area to recruit(Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois)
2. It's a heck of a lot easier to get into the top 25, top 15, than it is to stay there. A lot of teams circle Cal Poly on their schedule now after their success last season. They are a team that has made a fast rise into the rankings and had a preseason ranking this year. I'm not sure they're fully accustomed to being the hunted, having to bring their very best each and every match. It's not an easy thing to do.

Sure...makes sense... Seriously - Jon Stevenson was posting here as "vbjonny". I personally verified it. Then Wolfie scared him off with so many bizarre questions and I guess he sent in an intermediary on his behalf. I have seen that thread and do believe it was coach. But to give your id and login to a friend and then they post, OK.

I'm just going to pretend "vbjonny" is NOT Jon Stevenson even though I believe he is.
