In recent years, I'd say Pat Nihipali from Mira Costa.

If Nihipali is #1 on the list, then McKinney has to be #1a.

Rather than pointing out a negative, why not focus on those incoming freshman (past and present) who had positive impacts their first seasons? Seems like there were a few this year like Jake Weins / UCSB

It's disheartening to visit a site like this and see that some have taken to sniping at people who have had dissapointments in their careers. It's a little telling about perhaps your own sense of self esteem. I am aware this is a fan board, it's a free country, etc.
It's very well known that McKinny chose to pursue his basketball career and his broken foot in January derailed both his intentions for BB and VB this past season. If there is "dissapointment," it was "dissapointing" for us fans that he hasn't focussed on volleyball. He does have the freedom to follow his dreams in the manner in which he feels it best suits him. I have heard he is healed now, took a med redshirt and will be back next year for both sports.

With Klosterman at OPP, even if McKinney did devote all of his focus to volleyball, he'd be hard-pressed to make the starting lineup. The weaknesses of his game were very apparent during the 2003 season, Al even mentioned it in a Daily Bruin article. Sure, he's 6'8" and somewhat athletic (compared to other volleyball athletes, as a bball athlete he's way below average), but he's never been challenged. And his skills are very raw. I suppose he could go back to playing middle if he would concentrate hard and learn how to block.
