I don't think the thread is "mean" just incredibly negative, and possibly totally pointless. I dislike all the teams that bownlovingfreak likes.

I met John Cook several times through the support of the team when he was at UW, but I wouldn't say I knew him. I accept your point, I didn't word it well. He is a driven, intense guy about volleyball, and very stubborn about what he feels is correct. That strikes many people the wrong way. As I tried to say, I think I understand him a bit and I respect his ability as a coach very much.
And as I said, I am not going to paint every Nebraska fan with a broad brush, but comments about the physical appearance of players, comments about how Nebraska should not have to play unworthy teams, comments about how a 30-8 game is more exciting than a 30-28 game, etc.... If it were one guy, I would ignore it, but this has happened on multiple occasions with Nebraska fans. Totally uncalled for stuff.

...can't help myself.
Long Beach - their whole mentality is obnoxious. Arizona - All bark, no bite.

But I have had a half-dozen experiences with Nebraska fans at Final Fours and Regionals, and they have not been fans of the sport of volleyball. I have observed similar behavior in several pre-season tournaments (San Diego State, 1998; Omaha, 2005)... not impoliteness so much as a vast disinterest in non-Nebraska volleyball.

I have to believe it is a few bad apples, I think the overall reputation of Nebraska fans, is the exact opposite of what you describe.

Where do I start...
Actually, it's not the teams I hate so much, it's the people. On second thought, it's the teams, too.

How can you doofs hate Nebraska fans, 90% of whom are card-carrying AARP members? They're your grandmas and grandpas, for pete's sake!

Hmmm, this is a good question. I don't really dislike any team. They've never done anything to me, but there are teams I root for and against. I root for any Pac-10 team just because they're kind of like family. I really respect Washington, so I pull for them when they are playing against other Pac-10 teams ... I also usually pull for Cal. I have never really been a Hawaii fan and usually root for them to lose. I really respect their program and their fan base though. I think the reason I root against them is because a few Hawaii posters on here rant on and on and it kind of entertains me to see what they say when Hawaii loses. So really, I root against them out of amusement (thats bad of me, huh?). I also root against Nebraska, mainly for two reason. Again, really respect the program and I think while I would not be the same type of coach as John Cook, I really think he has done a lot for the program. One reason is that I was (and still am not) a fan of Nancy Metcalf. She has talent and has shown why she deserves to be on the National Team. However, knowing a couple of other players on the National Team, I just never had been supplied with good info to paint a positive picture of her, actually kind of the opposite. But I don't know her, so I have tried to set that aside and just focus on her volleyball abilities. I also am not in love with Sarah Pavan. I think she is a very good player, very very good actually. She just reminds me of myself when I was younger and took everything so seriously. I wasn't happy then. So I kind of want to just take her aside and tell her to loosen up a bit. But she has some while at Nebraska, but still could stand to loosen up a little more. But I'm sure she's a great kid. Besides that, my favorite teams are Stanford (alum, so its a given), Pac 10 teams as I stated, Minnesota because they are gritty and almost beat Nebraska last season, Purdue (because its my home state) but not Notre Dame (even though I grew up down the block from campus), Texas (I like their raw athleticism ... it excites me!), and last night after watching Pitt-ND, I kind of like Pitt now -- not sure why though.

Duke. Any coach that allegedly asks her players to vote a fellow player off the team has got some serious leadership issues. Also, the program should be able to recruit the same kind of players found at Stanford and should be in the NCAA championship hunt, but they have never entered the elite rankings.

To paraphrase a UCLA t-shirt -
"My two favorite teams are UW and whoever is playing Stanford"
