Well, for certain jobs, like investment banking, the Ivy and other academically elite schools have a serious edge up on State schools and lesser known private institutions. On another note, volleyball players don't have as an extensive of an athlete - alumni network for jobs as do football, basketball and baseball players.

That's because they are qualified for jobs on their own merit.

I'm guessing for almost any major, there is some random non ivy league / duke / stanford school that is one of the best at it (like miami for marine biology, tennessee for logistics or sports management, etc...).
Also, I am about 90% confident on AntennaMagnet's life story.
First, she started playing volleyball at a "normal school." She was terrible and lazy, so the coach told her to hit the road, and that's where she developed her apparent hatred of coaches and her belief that they are always out to ruin their players lives.
Then she transfered to be a normal student at an Ivy league school, and uses her excessive pride in having attended such an AMAZING institution to make up for her failings in volleyball.

And as I said, I am not going to paint every Nebraska fan with a broad brush, Oh really. I despise Nebraska because of their fans. Looks pretty much like that is what you were doing. But now are back peddling. I agree, but you generalizing that on all Nebraska Fans and then saying you despise Nebraska because of their fans even though you've only experience a few, makes you no better. I've met bad fans from pretty much every school I've visited or have come here. And I've met exceptionally great fans from pretty much every school I've visited or that has come here.

I don't understand people who "dislike" certain teams because they are a traditional rival. I don't either. Like football for instance. OU is Nebraska's traditional rival. I love em. My second favorite Big 12 team if not college team. Have a great time going there for games and when OU fans come here.

Chance, you're so astute. The experience you've identified is one of the reasons why there should mainly be women coaches coaching female sports. I also sense that you'd get sweaty palms working for a woman.
Regarding coaches, I do believe that dislikes for programs can partly be guided by the demeanor of the coach. Coaches who treat their players poorly either, inadvertently or overtly, tend to shape a programs reputation and appreciation or disgust for it. Look at the current ND football program.....stinky would be putting it mildly.

But this is a new twist: Nebraska football team has always been one of my favorites. In fact, it was #1, followed by Notre Dame, USC, and Washington. When UH Warriors started to get national recognition back in the 80s, it fell to #2. But now, because of Nebraska women volleyball team, It's rapidly falling out of sight! (kidding) ;D

I would like to think that my daughter would have an oppurtunity to be coached by the best coach possible whether female or male. Then again as long as she isn't coached by a bitter old women life will be good for her.

I don't see how they would have the time to take dental classes AND play volleyball. Both demanding. Reminds me of some highly regarded vb player some years back. She told me she didn't want to go to college and major in something bogus like communications. That's what she said as a high schooler. She said she wanted to major in something substantial. Now that she's in college (and several years into it), it turns out she's majoring in communications. LOL! Kehoe, huh?

Stanford (it's a respect vote -- they win it all every other year and I'm just tired of it) No... you're just sore Ohio was embarrassed badly in Minnesota Well, if this is basis for choosing, I guess I have to add Miami to the list.

Alright, I'm going to step out on the limb and just simply say that I dislike women's volleyball teams with male head coaches. I'd have the same opinion of football or men's basketball teams coached by women.

How about if they are really effiminate male coaches?
I know that when Purdue is doing their "Dig for the Cure" that Shondell is supposed to be wearing a pink shirt.

I don't know about disliking the other team, but I sure enjoy it when Pacific beats UCSB, Long Beach and Stanford.

I'd have the same opinion of football or men's basketball teams coached by women. While you are out on the limb, do you also object to or dislike . . . 1. any male coaching women. 2. males officiating a women's game 3. males playing on a women's team (if their school doesn't offer a playing opportunity on a men's or a boy's team 4. males following, interviewing, or reporting on a girls/women's team 5. males spending a lot of time on a website devoted to women's/girls sport? I have disagreed with a number of your postions in the past, but I concede and credit you with being forthright with your opinions, however, unpopular they may be. So, if you said no to any of the above. How do you rationalize the difference between a no above and your previously stated dislike for men in head coaching postions. Does your beef have to do with putting men in positions of authority over women? On the surface it sounds sexist. But I am interested if only to help me understand better so I don't get upset when I see posters that I suspect have double standards.

When AntennaMagnet is on the limb maybe she will fall on her head and knock some sense into her.
