The past 20 years or so, we've seen the development of the 2/3 passer system, increase in jump serving, better serving, swing blocking, and three person blocks which all have really changed the way volleyball is being played (feel free to include other things i didnt mention). Can anybody see any up and coming schemes or techiques we'll be using in the future?

Recruiting foreign players to play in college so that US men's volleyball get up to par with the international game faster! I don't think that the purpose of men's collegiate volleyball is to develop international players.

I don't think that is what he meant. International Vb is different and I think he means that bringing in foreign players will get America caught up more with how internation VB is beign played.
question. I've seen in Div. 3 ball. ATtackes being made back handed and not pancakes on the ground but players passing the ball by back handing it. I don't like this at all, but I wonder if this is where it is heading? Anyone out there have comments on this or should I start another thread?

im sorry, but what d3 volleyball have you been watching? D3 is not like 8th grade volleyball, these guys know how to play. There may be occasionally strange plays when its the only way they can get the ball up, but its not uncommon in any level of volleyball to see players getting to balls however they can.

it does not happen often, but often enough that I noticed it. These are chicagoland area teams and some are NAIA, some are d3 some are club teams. Getting the ball up is one thing, but is it ok to backhand an attack? Don't belittle...just please answer my question....I'm still learning here and since the game is always changing.....this is a good place to ask and learn.

while that was not meant to be belittlng, to me it sounded like you were belittling the D3 level. I personally take offense to that, and seeing as we are from the same area, i'm guessing you have seen me play at one time or another. I personally have not noticed that trend, but then again i am looking at things from a different perspective than you are. Nobody on my team does that on a regular basis, only if that is the only way that they can get the ball up.

Were they doing this back-handed passing thing during pepper and warm-up or during the game?
My take on this is that if they passed the ball perfectly everytime they backhanded it.. its all good to me! I've seen people at higher levels do things very werid (extremely rare tho) like set the ball with the back of their hands instead of the front, do 180 spins in the air while hitting, and other stuff. I see it as a great player being cocky and showing off. He's saying "I'll do the techniques all wrong and stuff, and still beat you and get the point, just becuz im THAT good." Its kind of like basketball players showing off their crossovers and stuff like that.
