House recognizes BYU's national volleyball title By Lee Davidson Deseret Morning News
WASHINGTON — The House unanimously passed Monday a resolution honoring Brigham Young University for winning the NCAA men's volleyball championship. Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, who introduced the resolution, said, "This is the third national championship in men's volleyball that BYU has won in six years." It won by overcoming a 10-6 deficit in the deciding game to defeat Long Beach State. Cannon said the team's 29-4 record was the second-best in the school's history. "I would especially like to congratulate the Cougars' head coach, Tom Peterson, who became the first men's volleyball coach in NCAA history to win a national championship with two different schools," Cannon said. "But the entire team deserves recognition for winning the national championship. For Cougar fans across America, this volleyball team has been one of the most exciting to watch and cheer on. I congratulate them on their national championship this year and look forward to another victorious season in 2005."
