What's up with Toppel? Is he injured? I was going to see Stanford vs. USC on saturday but why bother if Toppel isn't going to play.

I expected to see Curt Toppel play but was disappointed when he wasn't there...hurt? I love to see a great match, but without Curt leading them, Stanford was swept. Toppel is very hard to stop, but I was hoping to see him and Brad Keenan go "head to head." Maybe later in the season. Pepperdine keeps rolling along. Incidentally, when I said earlier in the pre-season, Pep needed two new guys to step up (OH & MB), apparently, Lefty OH Mike Gledhill has been improving every game and is stepping up. Freshman 6' 11" MB Andy Hein is looking pretty good. Not dominate yet but at 6'11" he imposes a threat with his quick hits. Momentum is building sports fans...

gostanford.ocsn.com/sports/m-volley/recaps/020603aaa.htmlAbove is the link to the game recap and stats. Curt Toppel's left thumb is in a cast and he reaggravated a strained abdomen in the first match against Hawaii. He was still not 100% as of last week against CSU Northridge and UCSB athough he did play. I think the Stanford staff is giving him a break so he can heal faster.

I definately thing that it would be a big blow to Stanford if Toppel stays out for awhile. He was the only consistent player that led Stanford against the Warriors. He played well in their loss to the Warriors and he led the team to the big win over Hawai`i.
Curt Toppel is an awesome player to watch so it would be a bummer to see Toppel on the bench and not on the court.

Toppel will not be leaving Stanford for the National team because the National team isn't even practicing together right now. Curt had surgery on his hand in the off season and based on what people are saying he has a pulled abdominal muscle, and looks like the coaches feel he needs some time to heal. This is the breaks of a long season and if a team doesn't have a bench it ends up like it did last night against Pepperdine.I hope Curt heals quickly and is back playing soon ,he is a fun player to watch ,even when you are rooting for the other team as I have been against him since early club days.

I agree Curt Toppel is a fun player to watch. He is just such an awesome player. And I enjoyed watching him play against our Warriors couple weeks ago.
Best wishes and hope for a quick recovery. We all want to see you back on the court Curt.
