Ah heck, the Gwich'in (does that rhyme with "bitchin'", as in "Bik's new pink Miata is sooooooo bitchin'"?) will get over it....let them open up a casino in the ANWR. When are you numbnuts gonna realize that the energy problem is not a political decision but an economic one? No corporation in the energy business is gonna do anything differently until there is economic incentive to do so, be it looking at alternative energy sources, upgrading outdated/dilapidated infrastructure, etc.etc.). If you Democractic dorkwads are so conservation-minded and wanna hug every tree and animal in the forest, then you should realize that the solution lies with nuclear power, which is by far the cleanest of the viable energy sources out there. Oh...but it's NUCLEAR POWER and we don't want that crap in OUR STATE. Dumbazzes. I'm no Democrat. Damn, now I feel like I have to take a friggin shower.

notice ..only 1 reply on how much gas you use... The reason I asked the question is germaine to the solutions offered..( I like that word)
Those who dont drive over 10 miles 1 way to work and have mass transit ..want more mass transit and more fuel efficient cars. Those who live in Hawaii ..cant drive anywhere...I know in my visits to the big island...(5) I have talked to those living in Hilo who say they have never been to Kona..ever..(no reason) paradise is paradise.
I live 50 miles away from the cities where I work..I haul construction equipment in my PU..and my jobsites change weekly/ there is no mass transit...Le Car option for me. Just about everything in your life IS delivered by trucks...airplanes...and those cost are going to skyrocket. A simple "we need more fuel efficient cars" is not going to solve anything..
There have been NO NEW gas refineries in the last 20 years,..thanks to the wacko eviros ,backed by democrats.Oil exploration..drilling and refinery has not kept pace due to the same forces.
When you take your kids to the movies and see the pretty butterfly playing with Mr. fox enjoying the warm sunshine...be aware that in the real world when Mr.Fox leaps into the air it is To EAT that butterfly...
Again mass media portrays something to help influence our kids...( I'll leave this to help lead the sheep closer to their gentle friends Mr.Bear and Mr. wolve and wiley coyote..)

Bill, you can't just stick your head in the sand about this. Of course, we need oil and of course it would be nice if it were cheap and plentiful. But it is NOT, nor is it likely to ever be again.
So now what do you do? Destroy the world to buy yourself another 20 years of relatively painless oil consumption? That is the typical response by your typical Republican. Always concerned with the short-term and incapable of thinking long-term.
Do you really believe all of this is worth it? Don't you think it's past time we SERIOUSLY devoted time and resources to finding alternatives? Not just for the sake of the environment--although you shouldn't need a better reason--but also for the sake of the dynamics of the Middle East powder keg?
I'm still not sure what you are arguing, but it sure does sound like you're saying that the future is someone else's problem. All you want is cheaper gas. Now.

And, by the way, there aren't many foxes in the real world jumping into the air to eat butterflies. You need a better analogy, kiddo.

What mileage do you get from your pickup? Were trucks with better mileage with similar capabilities available? Looking at the federal EPA site pickup large truck mileage reached a peak in the late 80s to mid 90s and has generally trended downward since that time. Over the past year or two it has started rising again but it appeared the mileage averages were still noticeably below the levels achieved back in those years. In terms of how far you live form your work sites, isn't that a matter of choice so in at least some respect "you reap what you sew"? Since oil companies declare that gas prices raise based on supply and demand you don't think that at least part of the reason that no refineries have been built is caused by oil companies not wanting more refineries? As gas prices increase oil company profits increase as well. Over the past two years oil company profits has continue to reach all time high levels. Fewer refineries help them artificially control supply levels. If they don't want to put some of their record level profits into building new refineries, why don't they at least put more of it into technologies to increase output levels for their existing refineries? Oil companies have no incentive to build more refineries or increase production at existing refineries. In the first quarter of 2004, ExxonMobil iincrease profit levels from refining operations by 38.8%, ConocoPhillips increased their profit levels by 19.2%. Marathon Ashland isn'r publicly traded and refused to release information regarding their profit levels. You mean the mass media controlled by your "conservative majority"?

That of course is the additional upside of alternative energy sources and conservation: less demand, more supply = cheaper oil.

Those who live in Hawaii ..cant drive anywhere...I know in my visits to the big island...(5) I have talked to those living in Hilo who say they have never been to Kona..ever..(no reason) paradise is paradise. If people in Hawai'i don't go somewhere, it's not because they can't, it's because they don't want to. Kona to Hilo and vice versa would be considered a long drive (for those of us who line in Hawai'i) but it is a beautiful and scenic one. Gosh I'd much rather make that drive than contribute to the traffic mess we have on Oahu. Those in Hilo who haven't been to Kona can't blame gas prices, we've been paying those high gas prices for years. The only reason to go to Kona from Hilo is to get some sun, fishing, or both.

Name the location where you want that new gas refinery....nuclear plant or coal burning plant? It the same waco enviros who block every attempt to build any new plants...
The price of oil is NOT driven by demand ...you silly dudes...
Its driven by traders ..trading on fear. What might happen in the future ....
Just as democtrats and the left wing attack ..what might happen. my truck is a full sized Ford...18 mpg my ranger gets 18mpg my jeep gets 12 mpg..and I dont care ..its a toy
If in computing your data gets jammed...do you get more terminals or do you get a bigger or more servers.
The fact that ANWAR will be destroyed is similar to the arguments against the Alaskan oil pipeline and highway...no species suffered.
And gorfs aruments against why they werent built are (R)ubbish...its the democrats who block evertything that have led to where we are...
There is a huge difference between conservation and environmental protection and what the "eco-nuts " subscribe to.
Hows Hydro power working out west..yet they want to take damns out...restore nature back to what it used to be...NO nuclear power anywhere...no power lines...and no roads...its not westerners voting for this but New England democrats.
The main reason they lost the west vote.

FYI, I would consider myself one of those environment lovers. That being said I also work at Nuclear Power Plant, been here 10 years. I'm a big fan of Nuclear Power & also know both sides of the issues very well. Most Nuclear Power plants in this country are reaching the end of their Operating Licenses.(30 years). We, like many of our peers, have decided to re-tool our plant after getting re-licensed to run our plant for another 30 years. We are spending $250 million dollars to do so. We also our building a new $1 Billion coal power plant. Nebraska is all public power thus we have no greedy share holders to answer too. So, as a result we enjoy very low rates. Next door to us, on the Iowa side of a river, a $1.4 billion coal power plant is under construction. There is in FACT many new power plants under construction in this country. If someone wanted to build a new Nuke plant they could but the cost would be triple that of a Coal power plant putting out the same amount of power.
I would love for our power to come from wind but even in the windy state of Nebraska (ranked 6th) wind power is reliable only 18 percent of the time.
