Now to point on Nielsen. I don't have to say anything outwardly 'nice' about the guys. There are particular player posters who it's obvious slant their opinions towards their friends, but I don't.
Rob will do fine. He's been in the system, has learned and witnessed what it takes. All that is necessary is playing time for him to work on his game. He has all the tools, except for 6-4 height.
My point in a previous post is this. Sure Carlos was outset in the final, no wait let me say terribly outset, yet even with that handicap, who won the national championship? Against Lewis same thing, but BYU was barely edged. My point is don't you think with average setting by an average setter, BYU would have not had to go down to the wire in either match and would've still won both?

So who are you saying you'd prefer from last year's crop of setters? Let me think, hmmm....ummmm......oh yeah, it would be...Carlos, because? BYU Won the National Championship! It all comes down to results. Sure Carlos had a great team surrounding him, but it was his brain that led him to distribute the ball in a balanced way. I agree, Carlos isn't the most fluid of setters and his mechanics are awkward at times, but to all the BOBsayers, Carlos wins. Bottomline. Ray Charles could have set for BYU in that match and they still would have won. As for better setters than Moreno, all you had to do is look across the net in that match.

But, seeing as you are his #1 Fanboy, maybe you can help him work on his footwork and staying out of the freegin' net. Moreno did lead anything. Alleman, Hillman, and Burke showed more composure in that match than Moreno did. Note the "deer in the headlights" expression on camera closeup in Games 3 and 4.

And who was the team's setter? *YAWN* Deer in the headlights. Net violations. Tripping over himself to get to the ball in transition. 'Nuff said. I've seen the best of the best of collegiate setters for over 2 decades. From Sinjin, Karch, Dusty in the late 70's, to Stork in the early 80's, to Greenbaum, Ceman, Sealy (senior season only, he otherwise mostly sucked), McCaw, Metzger, Carlos Ortiz, Taliaferro, Suxho, Stewart Chong, Angel Aja, Eduardo Ferraz, Quinones, etc.etc. Moreno is not that good. As for the national championship, heck, the sun even shines on a dog's azz once in awhile.

I can't really respond to anything you say can I? And Carlos was a deer in headlights as you like to say. Sure he was. I 'm not saying he's one of the best collegiate setters of all time. But results speak. So he might've LOOKED a certain way, and might have made SOME errors. I guess it's just a testament to Carlos' all-around game that he could overcome all those things, and STILL lead his team to the title. BYU won the title. That isn't my subjective knowledge, that is fact. Of course I don't really care what you say on this, because the facts speak for themselves, and I wil always speak last.

The only testament shown in that final is that the rest of the team was able to rally up and pull Moreno out of his funk (barely) and squeak out a victory. Moreno as POY/MVP/Whatever last season is akin to Greichaly Cepero winning it in 2000 on the women's side. An overall down year in the NCAA for men's volleyball with no clear standout players. So give it to the player with the most hype on the team that won the championship.

In competition sometimes your body doesn't do what you want it to, but there's an intagible that leads you. Winners have it. Losers don't. Carlos is a winner. You can't dispute that, now can you?
