I did not see the OG events in question but I did watch some matches of the World Cup 2003 where some players of Egypt played with headscarves. I think it is something that takes away from the game and it certainly did not look right. I'm a Muslim (a secular one) and have been living in Turkey for the last 6 years. I am used to seeing people with the so called Muslim attire and even then it did not sit right.

It seems ridiculous that a school, the NCAA, the FIVB, or any other international sport federation would have a problem with players wearing a scarf, long sleeve shirts, or long pants. During the women's swimming events of the Athens Olympics I recall hearing comments regarding the approval of the newer high tech relatively full body swim suits being a reason why some of the swimmers from Islamic countries were now able to compete. Perhaps someone simply needs to create a "high tech" full body basketball or volleyball uniform that theoretically allows the players to move faster and jump higher.

It seems ridiculous that a school, the NCAA, the FIVB, or any other international sport federation would have a problem with players wearing a scarf, long sleeve shirts, or long pants. It gets to be problem when they start popping up like mushrooms everywhere. Exceptions are OK but THIS exception has a tendency to quickly become the rule.

What I find interesting is that these "clothed" women will tolerate the others to play in skimpy outfits, but a big deal is made for them wanting to wear all their clothes.
Who is the "bigger" person?

There is more politics involved there than these people just wanting to wear their clothes.
In secular muslim countries (and recently some of europe), this is becoming a major problem. Conservative muslims want to create a notion that those who cover themselves are muslims whereas those who do not are infidels. And the issue gets really abused.

this is just as bad as gary hall jr getting fine for wearing a boxing robe just before jumping into the pool for the swim race. i say let them wear what they want to wear just as long as it isn't something explicitly sexual.
