Is expected to pelt the Keys, then make landfall in the Tampa area, then work it's way through the state, with the eye passing right over Gainesville. Could be a category 3 by the time it hits tomorrow. Hope and pray the damage is minimal across the state. Scary times.

Looks like we'll miss most of it, as will Tampa, but Ft. Myers and Orlando are gonna get slammed. It's a Category 4 now, winds topping 145mph. I hope everyone in the path stays safe.

Is it typical for a governor to ask the president to declare a state of emergency BEFORE an event happens?
I dunno, I've had a lot of experience with bad weather reports, it seems premature to estimate all that damage already though!
Regardless, hope the people that tend to forget a hurricane blows through Florida every year or two are ok and remember that the next time they buy ocean-front property and then ask for my tax dollars to repair the damage from something that happens EVERY COUPLE YEARS!!!!
Oh yeah, hope no people are hurt.... but when there are in excess of millions and millions, you know it's gonna happen... just because it woulda happened anyway. I estimate they blame 10 deaths on the storm when they were something else, like a car crash, or a heart attack or something.

This was a scary storm, especially when they said it would hit here head on. It ended up hitting a bit south of here. and causing a whole lot of damage there. Here we were foprtunate to get only slight winds and less than an inch of rain. If it had hit north of here like prdiictd for days, it would havehit us with the worst section of the storm.
i was in a shelter since thursday night. hurricanes are nothing to take lightly.

Glad you are ok. I have some friends down in Punta Gorda I'm waiting to hear from, no word yet and they got hit very hard. Scary storm indeed, the damage is catastrophic in many areas of the state.
