Considering the results of this week, the choice was pretty obvious. Still, the AVCA has made some weird choices in the past so nothing is ever certain. But its nice to see other teams getting recognition.
Joe Nargi, a 6-7 senior right side/opposite hitter for 12th-ranked Cal State Northridge (8-4, 4-3), has been selected the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I/II Men's National Player of the Week after leading the Matadors to wins over two higher-ranked opponents, including top-ranked UC Irvine. CSN upended UC Irvine in four games, marking the first time in nine tries the Matadors beat a top-ranked team. The UCI victory followed the team’s first-ever defeat of 11th-ranked UCLA (3-2). Nargi registered back-to-back 20-kill performances with 25 against the Bruins and 20 versus UC Irvine. He averaged 5.00 kills, 1.44 digs and .78 blocks in nine games for the week. Nargi added four digs, five blocks and two assists against UCLA, while recording nine digs, two blocks and an ace in the UC Irvine win.
