Was catching up on some of the stories coming out of the DNC. Other than seeing a wire service photo of Bill and Hillary hugging each other which made me sick, I picked up these paragraphs from the writeup on Clinton as the clean-up speaker for the first night:
"Clinton was needed in the last election and the vice president blew the chance to use his great strengths ... it was a mistake," said New Jersey delegate John Adler.
Former Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) distanced himself from Clinton in the disputed 2000 election, fearful to associate himself too closely with a man dogged by scandal. Delegates warned Kerry not to make the same mistake."
Politically in 2000, I think Gore made the right decision. Clinton is more valuable now in 2004, as time has softened the public perception of Clinton, whereas in 2000 the memory of the whole scandal was fresh in people's minds.
If Kerry is smart (which, as a supposed intellectual he ought to be), he better milk everything he can outa Clinton's popularity and ride that into election day.
