I have a story from my law school days at Columbia.
I took a Federal Tax Law course in my Third Year from this esteemed professor. He complained about the pressure to publicize being so great within the academic community. He told a story about how he wrote an article of about 20 pages for a law review. Prior to submitting it to the law journals, he gave it to another professor to proof-read and critique. What he got back from that professor was a 100-page dissertation on that article. So, my professor said, "So my friend will not get tenure because he hasn't really published much, and yet, he wrote a 100-page master work on the subject matter I dealt with in my article! And that 100-page dissertation will nver be published. People do write, even if it's not published."
I was thinking about this story yesterday. I was on this forum yesterday but I did not post, and hence, not adding to my post count. But I communicated by VolleyTalk IM a lot to various members of this esteemed community. That's the funny thing about this forum. You can be very active and yet not post much on the "official" boards.
