Am just watching the Opening Ceremony right now and watched both Iraq and Iran marching in.
The crowd gave them pretty good applause.
Amazing that with all that's going on in their countries as with a few other countries in the world, sport always seems a uniting factor.
I'm still bitter about countries that boycotted the Olympics because of politics, but that said, I've also moved on.

Who boycotted the competition? Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the previous Olympics in Moscow (1980) and Los Angeles (1984).

I will watch the tape-broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies but I have seen pictures on Yahoo and dailynews.com. From what I've seen it looks like another grand ceremony. I am hesitant to watch it only because there will be commericals every five minutes - ok, I'm exaggerating, but it feels that way. Good luck to the Athens OOC, the people of Greece and the athletes!
Go USA!

It's too bad when networks cut to commercials during the Parade of Nations.
I like watching the athletes march in and hate it when some countries are not shown because of the commercials!
I'm just listening in to the NBC broadcasts and I don't know how many breaks they've already had, but there have been a few already. Now, since this is a taped presentation, what are the odds that all 200+ countries will be seen on TV?
