Pacific got back on track after last night's horrific showing...

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Pacific men’s volleyball team got back in the win column with a 3-1 victory over the UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday, January 22. The win was the Tigers' 24th consecutive win over the Tritons dating back 12 seasons. With the victory the Tigers improved to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the MPSF while the Tritons fell to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Set scores for the match were: 28-30, 30-24, 30-22, 30-26.
For the first time in six matches Pacific dropped a set to UC San Diego falling in the opening set of the match. Despite hitting .353 for the set, the Tigers could not stop the Tritons' offense, letting UC San Diego hit a match high .424 for the set.
After the first set, the Tigers got back on track, forcing the Tritons to hit under .150 for each of the three remaining sets including holding them to .000 in set two.
For the night, senior Brian Zodrow (Kaneohe, Hawaii) led the Tigers in hitting, again, putting down 19 kills. In addition, Zodrow tallied eight digs, an assist and a service ace for the match. Two other Tigers reached double-digit kills as senior Mauricio Brizuela (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Simon Chen-Byerley (Northfield, Ill.) each recorded 13 kills. Brizuela added a career-high 16 digs defensively for Pacific.
The Tritons were led by Luke Wendler who recorded a match-high 27 kills and 11 digs. Mike Reuter was the only other hitter for UC San Diego to record double-figure kills as he finished with 11.
The Tigers will next be in action on Wednesday, January 26, as they come back home to take on Cal State Northridge. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
