I thought there was a possibility it might somewhere else so I did a cursory check of the women's board and didn't see the article title on the first page and posted anyway...

No worries. The title of the other thread was pretty misleading.

Can't believe they're whining about this.

Well, they may be whining about the little things but he real story is that the AVP had always considered themselves the NGB for beach volleyball, rather than the USAV. They believe that they had developed the beach talent which are winning the medals and that they should be getting the USOC prize money for the medals rather than having ti funneled through the USAV. So i can see why the AVP is chaffing under the USAV umbrella since they are training as they have always trained while seeing their money go to the USAV while getting dubious value for the payments.

Aha, I knew there was more to the story... as in many things in life, it is about the money. I am not familiar with the whole USOC, NGB, etc... money flow. The article actually makes the beach players sound like prima donnas but when it gets down to it, it's the AVP wanting the monetary awards associated with their long term efforts of getting the beach game to the status it is today... Follow up thought: Is the AVP a for profit or non-profit entity? I would think becoming the NGB for beach might put a huge restriction on how they operate resulting in a "be careful what you wish for" scenario...
