Please add more pictures. I've only found two so far and they're both of Lang Ping and Haneef.

If I'm not mistaken that's not Scott, that's Haneef!

Please wear you gas masks when walking around town, please!! The USA cycling team apparently apologized for being photographed wearing their masks when they arrived at the airport. I believe they were the only ones who did that (or at least that we've heard of).

USOC chastised them, saying that they had provided them masks for training and not for walking around. Trying to save face all around.

Actual everyday Chinese citizens are routinely photographed wearing masks for news stories over the last several years. It hardly seems fair to expect foreign athletes to not do what some of the locals have already been doing.

But I heard on Today that their coach told them to wear the masks on the plane as well. I can understand outside but in the plane, then indoors at the airport?

An airplane is basically an aluminum can with wings taped to the sides. On a flight to Beijing you're immersed in the stale taste of recycled air for many hours; there are no gills. Think of all the viruses and bacteria floating around in that cramped cabin. Then think of all the millions of disease carriers from all over the world in the airport -- you probably only need three of the proverbial six degrees of separation to get to Ebola or plain old influenza. If I were an athlete flying to play the premier event in my sport, I would wear a friggin' HAZMAT suit on the plane.

My husband never gets sick, except when he rides in an airplane. Lots of shared germs...
Sounds like a smart decision to wear the masks on the plane to me!

Welll, they do it in Taiwan, Japan and most Asian countries: wearing gas masks!
