China now up 2-0 with scores of 25-22, 27-25.
Russia kept it very close in the first set and was leading 24-22 in the second set.

I would feel very indignant if USA lost to Italy and China advanced so smoothly into the semifinal

What a convenient win for China. I guess its on to the semis for them due to their excellent "draw"

Funny that the Chinese media all thought it's a lucky draw for China.

As I said on at least three of the other threads, this draw was actually terrible for China. They cannot beat Brazil and will not even get a shot at the Gold. This win is not a sign of China's power, but is a sign of Russia's crumbling volleyball infrastructure for the last two years.

With this loss, Artamonova remains as the best player ever without a major title

I don't think China played a whole lot better in this match. I think a few players did step up, Li Juan has been a favorite of Chen Zhonghe and she has been above average. Xue did some nice things.
I thought the Russians looked listless. I didn't realize that they made Sheshenina the captain. So she is a relative youngsters captaining over Gamova, Estes, Sokolova, Godina, etc. It looked like the Russians were not at all there. I thought I saw Sokolova crying at the end but I could be wrong.
So what is the story with her last name? She is still married to Killic, her jersey says Sokolova, and her bio says Shaskova. I am confused.
