How is everyone talking about the MPSF race being close?? last time i checked Pepperdine had a three match lead ahead of everyone else and yet they still get no credit. VBCrusin....it looks to me that the new guys are out playing the players lost from last year, whats your take....and i dont want to hear about leadership, becuase last years leadership fell one match short.

Mybe it wasn't to early to ask if the MPSF gets the bid. The few times the MPSF didn't get the at large, wasn't it a situation of the winner of the tournament being far and away the best team, with a dogfight for second? There was that whole Stanford debacle back in the 90s. Anyway, it's starting to look like whoever gets to the finals will go to the final four. Hopefully they won't do something that stupid again, but you never know.

Remember, most of the other teams have gone through the two match swing against either Hawaii or BYU. Pepperdine hasn't done that yet. Usually a team wont be able to sweep the series with both teams. But for now, they have the best record and they are the team to beat.

Hey Waveraver, You're right about new guys stepping up on Pepperdine. They are doing a good job at their positions. I never said that Pepperdine lacked the leadership from last year (and yes, they did fall one game short). Looking at Pep's lineup, I said they lacked the "fire" of Walker, Van Reusen, and Daniels, however, I did say that the 1-2-3 combination of Keenan, Rooney & Winters were the "quiet assassins." Nevertheless, they lead a very good team without any fanfare. Like "cold blooded killers," they simply stare at their opponents with a small smile and fire the ball at you. Mayer is doing a good job at setter, and Coats is very consistent at Libero. Lefty OH Gledhill is enjoying himself, because many teams are concerned more with Winters, Keenan & Rooney, which leaves him open quite a bit. Anyway, Lefties are always hard to block, so I'm not taking anything away from Gledhill's contribution. 6'11" MB Andy Hein has proven to be effective with some quickset kills, but is not the blocker that Keenan is, yet. Yes, it's a different lineup this year, but the "Quiet Assassins" are doing their jobs...no trashtalking, celebrating, etc. Just gentlemen who will kill you. They are proving that "fire" isn't needed this year. Is the MPSF race close? It's closer than the rankings. There are 5 to 6 teams who can prevail at any time. I can promise you a very exciting tournament at the end of the . Pepperdine might be undefeated so far, but they never underestimate ANY team, especially when it comes to BYU, Hawaii, Northridge, UCI, Pacific...and watch out for UCLA who is quietly winning matches again. Why am I big on these teams...check out my predictions this week...I sucked big time (I'll post the Prediction Winner tomorrow after UCLA/Stanford & UCSB/UCSD matches). I think I was 50% on my choices. Some of these teams that I though would win(because they looked great on paper), lost. Hey...anyone can have an off day. Even me.
