Long Beach State upset top-ranked UCLA and No. 12 UC-Irvine last week to clinch fifth place in the MPSF. Leading the 49ers was outside hitter Robert Tarr (Rockledge, Fla.), who had 28 kills against UCLA. He also had 19 kills and hit .406 at UC-Irvine.

Tarr Named MPSF Player of the Week LBSU Takes on Hawaii in MPSF Quarterfinals

WOODLAND, CA – Robert Tarr, of the Long Beach State men’s volleyball team, was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. This is his first league Player of the Week award. He joined teammates, Tyler Hildebrand and Teddy Liles to receive this weekly honor this season.
Tarr (Rockledge, FL), registered 47 kills for a 5.88 kills per game average, to go along with 14 digs and seven blocks in Long Beach State’s two wins over then No. 1-ranked UCLA and No. 12-ranked UC Irvine last week. Long Beach State is currently ranked No. 4 in the AVCA Top-15 poll, and No. 4 in Volleyball Magazine’s Top-10 poll, both released earlier today.
The junior outside hitter slammed a match-high 28 kills and recorded 10 digs, for his first double-double of the season, in the 3-1 win over UCLA on April 14 in The Walter Pyramid. Tarr notched a team-high 19 kills for a .406 hitting percentage, to go along with four digs and four blocks in the 3-1 road win at UC Irvine on Apr. 16.
Tarr is averaging 5.19 kills per game in league play (No. 3) and 4.96 kills overall (No. 6 in the nation) with an overall hitting percentage of 0.348.
Long Beach State (20-9) qualified for the MPSF playoffs as a No. 5 seed, and will travel to Hawaii (No. 4 seed) for its quarterfinal match on Saturday, Apr. 23 at 10:00 p.m. (7:00 HST).
