WOODLAND, Calif. - MPSF Executive Director, Al Beaird, announces the 2005 All-MPSF Men's Volleyball Teams, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year as voted by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball head coaches.
2005 MPSF PLAYER of the YEAR
SEAN ROONEY, #12, Senior, Outside Hitter - Pepperdine University
A consensus choice among MPSF head coaches, Rooney is currently averaging 5.30 kills per game, 1.45 digs per game and 0.90 blocks per game, with a team-high 19 kills with eight digs and blocks against Cal Baptist. He also recorded a match-best 18 kills while hitting .739 (18-1-23) against UC San Diego and hit .588 (21-1-34) against Long Beach State. Against Stanford, Rooney pounded out a match-high 25 kills on 56 errorless swings against Stanford and logged his eighth 20-plus kill match of the season with 22 against USC (3/17) and recorded a match-high 30 kills (.439) with eight digs, four blocks and two aces against UCLA.
He was tabbed Sports Import/AVCA National Player of the Week and Molten/MPSF Player of the Week on January 18. Rooney recorded his first double-double of the year with a 24-kill, 14-dig performance against Stanford and opened the year with a staggering 36-kill, seven-ace effort against Pacific.
Sean's very impressive list of accolades includes four-time All-American, four-time All-MPSF, 2004 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year and 2002 MPSF and American Volleyball Coaches Association Freshman of the Year.

JONATHAN WINDER, #15, Freshman, Setter - Pepperdine University
Winder started at setter every match this season for the Waves, averaging 13.59 assists per game, 1.10 digs per game and 1.00 blocks per game, and just missed his first triple-double with a 54-assist, 10-block, nine-dig effort in the season finale against CS Northridge. He led the Waves with a .417 hitting percentage with 64 assists and six blocks against UCSB, hit .750 with three kills, 31 assists, an ace, four digs and six blocks against Pacific, turned in 65 assists with nine digs against USC, and set a career-high 72 assists against UCLA..
Winder was tabbed Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week on March 13 and is the first true freshman since Sean Rooney (2002) to earn National Player of the Week honors.
A three-time high school All-American and two-time All-CIF honoree, Winder was a two-sport star at Woodbridge High in Irvine, Calif., where he excelled in both volleyball and basketball. Honors include playing for the U.S. Men's Junior National Team and being selected to play in the 2004 McDonald's Basketball All-Star Game.

MARV DUNPHY, 22nd Season - Pepperdine University
In 21 seasons as Pepperdine's head coach, Dunphy has guided the Waves to an overall record of 405-162, including 275-127 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play. Under Dunphy's direction, Pepperdine has captured three NCAA Championship titles and three of the last four MPSF crowns. Since the beginning of double obin conference play in 2002, Pepperdine has posted a league-leading 73-15 record.
Dunphy's first MPSF Coach of the Year honor came following a 20-2 conference record in 2002 a year that saw the Waves claim the conference's regular-season and tournament titles and advancing to the NCAA Championship match.
In 1994, the Topanga Canyon, Calif., native was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Mass.
During his tenure, Dunphy has had 26 student-athletes named AVCA All-Americans and 14 selected to the MPSF First team.
Dr. Dunphy, widely recognized as one of the game's premier coaches, has served several stints as head coach and assistant coach with the U.S. National Team at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. During his head coaching tenure with the U.S. National Team, the American squad maintained a No. 1 world ranking and compiled an impressive overall record of 197-31 (.864). Additionally, his team won nearly every major international tournament, including the 1985 World Cup, 1986 World Championships, 1987 Pan American Games and the 1988 Olympics.
In May of 2003, Dunpy was honored as one of four coaches named to U.S. Volleyball Association's Men's 1978-2002 All-Era Team. Dunphy recently served U.S. National Team in a scouting and advisory role during the 2003 World Cup in Japan.
