What is the point of playoffs? If you really think about it, mens volleyball playoffs don't mean a thing. Long Beach made it to the finals and what do they get for it? nothing. they get screwed by a team that lost in the first round because they had better criteria? I guess next year we should just get rid of playoffs and send the #1 and #2 seed to the final four because they are obviously pointless. It would save these schools that made it to the mpsf semis and finals a lot of hotel and food money. The Men's volleyball playoff system is so messed up it just disgusts me.

The Men's volleyball playoff system is so messed up it just disgusts me. It's not ideal, because there are only four teams that get to go the NCAA playoffs. How would you organize men's volleyball playoffs. And when you say have X more teams, identify the funding source that will pay for all the travel expenses, because it ain't coming from the NCAA.

What is the point of playoffs? There's one obvious answer: to determine the three automatic spots in the NCAA playoffs.

I never said more teams should go to the final four, i just think in this case the playoffs were absolutely useless this year and its obvious in ucla getting the at large bid while losing in the first round

It does not necessarily need to determine who gets the at-large, although it could make the picture clearer.

Men's volleyball needs a system that puts the best team in. The criteria needs to be expanded and include the strength of play at the end of the season, like other sports. Bottomline: the bruins might have got had the edge on criteria, but hey are not the best team for the FF. It does not matter who you back in this discussion the bruins do not deserve it. They got some wins in early january and febuary and theb the other programs passed them as they self imploded. And in the end the got rewarded for stinking up gyms all over the mpsf down the stretch..............
Pathetic ........ Sad !!!!!!!!!!
Eliminate all the post season ---- lets turn into volleyball's version of BCS!!!!!!!!!!!!

There really should be no MPSF tournament that's for sure. Let the conference champion get the auto bid and then let the at-large process work, however it may turn out. It is ridiculous to put together a tournament and then pick a team that was eliminated in the first of 3 rounds of the tournament. Why go through all of the hassle, cost, etc of doing this let alone the heartbreak and stress that the players have to endure. This really is @$$%*!*! Scates you are a demon!

(Sigh) Beachman, Do they not teach logic at CSULB. Let's say there was no MPSF tourney. UCLA would have ended up with 4 losses and we would not have seen them get bounced by Northridge. LB would have had 9 losses and still lost to UCLA 2 out of 3. If anything the tournament gave the 49ers a chance to improve their record and possibly even win the automatic berth. How in the world did this tourney help UCLA? I really admire the passion of the Long Beach fans- they love their teams, but are a little short on realism. Now, I would enjoy nothing more than to see Penn State beat Al and the smug Bruins. (Anyone else out there that I forgot to piss off!!!LOL)

MPSF should not allow any team other than the second place tournament team to accept a bid. Accepting would be grounds for expulsion from MPSF. If a team outside MPSF deservers it more than MPSF (Loyola with a better record this year, but they still would not get it from CSULB) is out of luck.

Will people PLEASE remember that the only reason UCLA got a shot for the at large is because BOTH Hawaii and BYU lost as well...if either team had won, none of this would be happening. So thanks Hawaii and BYU for choking (as well!) and thanks to UCLA for having a GREAT regular season -- with only half the losses as Long Beach and a much better head to head. Stop complaining and look at the facts!!!

Playoffs are not useless. Long Beach had a chance to win it... but got swept in the Final.
