am i smoking something, or might usc be half-decent next year? Theyll have killian setting, grangeiro and figueroa on the outside, schellenberg at opposite, and vernon in the middle, with burden at the libero spot. i dunno about the other middle. that looks pretty decent to me.

USC should be improved by a fair margin next year. Injuries hurt them alot this year. They have a decent recruiting class coming in.

I don't think so. USC lost its best hitter to graduation. Its other outsides are undersized to say the least. Schellenberg may develop but his impact first year will be minimal. Looks like another very long year for USC though they couldn't do worse, could they?

I think they will do better this year. I haven't seen CJ play since he was a junior but if he kept it up he should make a good impact.

After deliberately refraining from drug use, I truly believe that USC will make the MPSF tournament next year. While not the most unbelievable achievement ever, it's a huge step up for a struggling program, and once in the tournament, has the potential to pull off an upset. I believe this team will have the ABILITY to beat any team, but once again, lack the consistency. Some of that lack of consistency will be made up for, however, by the increase in talent. 1. We get a full year of Killian. He's made his adjustments to college play, which I think is harder for a setter than any other position, and will undoubtedly establish himself as one of the top setters in the nation with a healthy year to do what he can do. 2. Figueroa and Grangeiro, while undersized, know how to get the job done. At times, they will struggle because when they're not getting full lift and they're not in their rhythm, they can't rely on size, but they're still loaded with talent. Grangeiro might be one of the smartest hitters in the MPSF, always trying to tool the blockers when the block is huge and always knowing the right angles to hit. Figueroa I worry about a little bit, because he can be downright amazing but he fluctuates a TON between amazing and poor. In the two games against Hawaii, he had one AMAZING game and one TERRIBLE game, and it's really frustrating to watch but it helps provide hope knowing what he's capable of. 3. Schellenberg: USC was shuffling opposites all year, and to have somebody to consistently be out there and develop that chemistry with Killian (which I'm sure they have a bit of already) will be immeasurably important. When the lineup is being shuffled from game to game, it's tough to get anything going, so aside from the talent C.J. is going to bring - he brings an incredibly needed stability. I am a little worried about our 2nd middle situation - Danny Newman should never see the court and not many of the backups have shown anything. Maybe Mosko moves back to middle, I don't know. I do like Vernon a lot though, and I think at least by next year he'll be in the upper tier of middles. Call me overly optimistic, but I've been to every game for two years now and damn it they owe me some success.

USC will resemble UCI's team this past season. Young teams don't do well.
