Doesn't it seem a little odd to start a match at 9:00 pm? Is that how you reward your #1 seed? If that match goes 5 they could be playing until near midnight. I was planning on taking my youngest kid, but forget it on a school night. Nice going NCAA.

I think starting the NCAA matches at 7:00 and 9:00 is actually a good decision. With the matches being shown live on TV, it is going to give volleyball a lot of television exposure nation wide as well as improve the attendance of the first match. For many years, the NCAA would start the first match at 5:00 and nobody came because people were just getting off work. Many NCAA basketball tournament games don't even start until 10:00 so a 9:00 start is not uncomman in NCAA tournament competition.

What is even more unusual is that the top seed plays the SECOND match of the night. Not too big of an issue, since there has been an off day placed between the semis and finals since 1996, but still unusual.
And there are STILL those amongst you who doubt the influence of Farting Al and the POWER OF THE WINK.
Remember, you must ALWAYS fear the WINK.

Uhm, hello. 7pm and 9pm PST equates to 10pm and midnight on the east coast, 9pm and 11pm in the midwest. On a school/work night, that actually HURTS national exposure not helps. March Madness has some off-peak start times, but those are mostly weekends, when the fans are all camped around the TVs round-the-clock with beer and pizza. Looks like they adjusted the start times to fit into the TV format, and not vice-versa. The time slot will put the semifinals after whatever ESPN2 had in primetime this Thursday night.

Does anyone know if the semifinals are going to be shown on a delayed basis? I know that they did this last year...it was early in the morning.

I'm showing that only the second semifinal will be shown on a delayed basis. May 6th at 10am PST on ESPN2. Personally, I'm glad all three matches are being shown live (of course I have ESPNU and I don't know if that's now a 'standard' channel for most people).

The second semifinal will be shown live on ESPNU, which most people don't have.
