Infact I'm laughing right now while I'm typing this. Mafua is a very good setter, a legitimate All-American candidate. Mafua is good but a Legitimate All American candidate? Perhaps not.. She's lucky she had good hitters that made her bad sets look good. Most likely Mafua will return as the starting setter and hopefully she will do better this season ('09). She's kinda dead when she's playing. She needs to bring more energy, excitement on the court and be in charge on the court. Often times, coaches want a level headed setter, one who isn't going to be that all over the court with her emotions.

... i believe she's the real deal. she's young, fast and has great hands. true, she's only a sophmore but she has the potential to be an elite setter in college, wherever she decides to go. as a freshman she led her school to the CIF DIV I championship and led her lakewood high school team to the #1 ranking in the nation. don't get me wrong, mafua and brandt deserve a lot of credit for taking over the responsibilities of our own 'all-american' setter but DO I think the two have all-american potential?? definitely not... Nuts, I don't know where you get your info but it's not correct. Moenoa, as a freshman, did not lead her team to the Div I CIF win because she was NOT the setter. She was playing right side and played it well but was not "the" instrumental player in getting the team there. Jasmine Orozco from the youth national team and Jessica Thomas who was on many DI coaches list to watch played OH's and Taylor (?) played middle and she had been the MVP the of 15's open division at JO's the previous year. Those 3 hitters received about 80% of the sets. The setter was Megan Johnson who is now at Long Beach (via Wyoming). The libero (LB) was also a big reason why the HS team got their top ranking. I don't think Lakewood was ever #1 though, maybe top 25. Lol!! So what Nuts, do you just make stuff up as you go along? So much for having any credibility... Thank you very much for the correction atpeace. There's way too much misinformation being tossed around here. What's really funny is that the ones spreading the misinformation always state it like it's fact so it's always great to see them get called out on it.

Because YOU brought her up that's right... you're so good. back to hawaii's new commitments! Nuts, you should leave the commenting up to people who actually know about volleyball. I know that you're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion should be based on facts and not on things you made up. What do you have against Mafua? You're going to have to get use to the fact that she will be the starting setter for the next 2 seasons. Pointing the finger at her about that loss to Stanford is downright cruel and unfair. This is not a one person sport. You're either a true fan that will support the Wahine no matter what, or someone that is only a fan when they're winning. I know that I will support the Wahine no matter what. Dani did a great job setting last season, and should be even better this season.

I totally agree internationalball.
And back to the issue at hand, Uiato should be a good one as well.

Nuts did get something right... Lakewood was ranked # 1 in the nation. It was in the beginning of the season but later faltered, nonetheless Lakewood was ranked the # 1 team in the nation in 2008.

OMG you guys are like a little cult.
sorry i don't have every fact or statistic memorized from prepvolleyball.com richkern.com avca.org nor do I know every parent/friend/cousin/aunty of every volleyball player in the world BUT i am a huge volleyball fan. regardless of any fact I may have misinterpreted, i clearly stated an OPINION on how I feel about megan moenoa and our current setters. so don't get your panties all twisted and get so defensive when I say something that isn't to your liking.
all i said was megan is a great player blah blah blah and has potential to be an amazing setter blah blah blah and as a sophmore i can only see her growing even more in the next two years. i do not have anything against mafua, she's great and she's done a wonderful job but is she ALL AMERICAN material, IMO i feel she isn't and probably because my idea of an all-american candidate is someone who's more well-rounded. yes, she's grown in the last 2 years but can she compete against the alisha glass's & sydney andersons right now? i PERSONALLY do not think so. i'd love for her to prove me wrong but i'm basing my opinion off of what i've seen during the 2007 season (which was really nothing) and the 2008 season.
if you disagree with me PLEASE support your claim with some FACTS that might make me think otherwise about her.

Yeah right! Before you tell others to support their claims with facts, you better get your facts straight. Don't be going off at people when you're the one with no facts to back up whatever you're trying to prove.

Come on you guys, let's get back to the main topic here! I am more interested in Uiato. If everything I hear about this girl is true, she should be an exciting setter to watch running the offense in the future.

Thanks for the video kidlv. She looks like she can get up on block attempts. Hopefully she will grow and inch or two before she gets here. It has been a while since Hawaii has got a tall setter. I believe Jenn Carey was the last setter over 5'10". Tuaniga, Uiato, and Moenoa sound like an all Polynesian team. Hopefully we can add Fonoimoana to this list. Hello Falyn...you reading this?? ;-)
