haha because believe me, guarantee she's a lot better than our setters now - no offense to mafua and brandt - but they're so predictable!! IMO, i think moenoa has some amazing hands and she's only a sophmore... Moenoa is good...but come on! You would take a high school setter with no experience at D1 volleyball, over a more experienced setter and who just led her team to the Elite 8, come on be serious!!! Shoji right now is looking for a replacement for Mafua when her eligibility runs out. Not the other way around. She came close at making All-American if it wasn't for her not playing a couple matches due to injury.

I agree with you, internationalball. Moenoa is not even halfway done with high school and the hype made about her is just out of control. Anyway, she is going to be a good player...but to say that she is better than 2 college setters with experience playing the game is actually kinda funny. Infact I'm laughing right now while I'm typing this. Mafua is a very good setter, a legitimate All-American candidate.

it's kinda funny now to see the compliments for mafua, after the season is over...during the season there wasn't much posters on here that had nice things to say...
i'm not saying the two previous posters are the ones that was dogging mafua during the season, but it's jus kinda ironic now that mafua is being complimented after she led her team to an elite eight finish

She's lucky she had good hitters that made her bad sets look good. Most likely Mafua will return as the starting setter and hopefully she will do better this season ('09). She's kinda dead when she's playing. She needs to bring more energy, excitement on the court and be in charge on the court.

Speaking of recruiting and commitment, why did DS stop recruiting international players? He should start recruiting brazillian players again.
What happen to those chinese players? According to a poster on this board, their names are charsiu bao and dim sum and chow fun or so something like (jk).. I really don't remember.

okay maybe i was a bit drunk when I posted that moenoa is much better than 2 college setters... but hear me out.
what is so difficult about believing a college freshman bringing a DIV I school back to the elite 8, and possibly, the final four again? it's happened before and it can definitely happen again. also, hawaii really has no choice but to work with an underclassmen setter, IF moenoa does decide to come to hawaii, mafua & brandt will be gone; obviously someone has to play quarterback. there are so many players out there that are overrated but IMO (remember it's only an opinion) i believe she's the real deal. she's young, fast and has great hands. true, she's only a sophmore but she has the potential to be an elite setter in college, wherever she decides to go. as a freshman she led her school to the CIF DIV I championship and led her lakewood high school team to the #1 ranking in the nation. don't get me wrong, mafua and brandt deserve a lot of credit for taking over the responsibilities of our own 'all-american' setter but DO I think the two have all-american potential?? definitely not...

what's so difficult about believing that a high school setter can easily take a DIV I school to the elite 8, and possibly, the final four again? also why are we even arguging about this. IF she does decide to come to hawaii, mafua & brandt will be gone; obviously someone has to run our offense. don't downplay her and think she's overrated because she really isn't. yeah, she's a sophmore but that's my point exactly. she's young, great and has amazing potential to grow in the next TWO years. as a freshman she easily led her school to the CIF DIV I championship and led her lakewood high school team to the #1 ranking in the nation. mafua and brandt have been doing a great job but put the three (mafua brandt and moenoa) in the same graduating class and i highly doubt that either mafua or brandt would have gotten the setting job. and get over it, everyone had the same expectations for herring and look at the accomplishments she's had her FRESHMAN year. I think it's time we cut your nuts off ;D

i agree with da kine nuts, its entirely possible that Moemoa can be a much better than setter than Mafua, after seeing her in the final match, everyone on earth would say the same thing. Mafua is over rated to me.

O.k. this is where I disagree with you. Mafua is a legitimate All-American setter...if not this upcoming season, the next one. And to say that she had great hitters that made her look good, please! She had to speed up the offense last season to beat the bigger blocking teams, and rely on their defense to balance things out. They did not have great hitters last season.

Nuts, I don't know where you get your info but it's not correct. Moenoa, as a freshman, did not lead her team to the Div I CIF win because she was NOT the setter. She was playing right side and played it well but was not "the" instrumental player in getting the team there. Jasmine Orozco from the youth national team and Jessica Thomas who was on many DI coaches list to watch played OH's and Taylor (?) played middle and she had been the MVP the of 15's open division at JO's the previous year. Those 3 hitters received about 80% of the sets. The setter was Megan Johnson who is now at Long Beach (via Wyoming). The libero (LB) was also a big reason why the HS team got their top ranking. I don't think Lakewood was ever #1 though, maybe top 25.

obviously she wasn't fast enough when we got SLAMMED by stanford. but for real, i agree she's a legitimate setter but definitely not 1st 2nd or 3rd team material, at the most i'd say HM. i would not put her in the same class as glass, spicer, anderson or lloyd.
why the hell are we talking about mafua? she's at hawaii and we're stuck with her BUAHAHA.
