i think it is great that they will expand to 8 teams for the NCAA tourney. But you know what really really sucks. NCAA wont sponsor a Division 3 tourney and we have 48 total teams combined more then d1 and d2 combined but yet they wont sponsor us. If it wasn't for motlen paying for our final four we wouldnt even have championship. Whenis the NCAA actually going to sponsor an Division 3 tournament? ?

As to Cal, nothing so far. That doesn't mean there isn't talk, a lot of talk, about it. Of course from the club end of things.
The new AD would have to be involved of course, and as noted elsewhere, her first priorities were a new women's bball coach, and the football stadium upgrade.
She will need some time before this would happen is my guess. We have the right alums to chat with her as things go along here. She is showing excellent support to women's vball.
The momentum will have to build again with the AD as it did with the former one in 97-98. (a couple AD's ago). The announcement at the socal university alumni luncheon was 2000. A variety of things happened. I know some; others I likely don't. These don't matter now. So many new folks around. Stuff like this doesn't happen without a broad consensus in the Athletic Dept and among general alumni who support athletics, There is a fair amount of support.
Since then Cal has added 3 women's sports, our campus #s are better, our $$ are better, and continuing winning with a well run men's club program, is very important . I think the campus has 23 sport clubs. Cal mvb club just received the award for the best run sport club last week.
I heard talk a couple weeks ago on campus that if one Pac 10 mvb team goes D1, some others would likely follow suit. Maybe the ADs from Cal ASU and UA need to do some chatting with USAVB and the NCAA. There were campus visits before .......with the AD in the late 90's.
I still think mvb and another women's club sport would move up to Div. 1 status, together, were it to happen.....for all kinds of reasons. At Cal that could be women's rugby, as they are hugely supported and it is a big program.
When the talk was in 2000, the word was 'with no scholarships'. How long that would have lasted, I have no clue. Not the way to be competitive. With only 4.5 allowed, we could certainly work on adding one a year.
We are all hoping things continue to develop.

I would think that Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah Valley State are programs that would be able to make D1 programs in volleyball and already have a great system in-place.
But, as for now, I think there truly are enough teams that an 8-team playoff would work fine!
In Women's vb... there are 64 teams out of 310 = 20% of the teams make the tourney
If there are 32 teams in D1 MVB then 20% would be 6 teams, but bringing in 8 makes more sense unless you give the top two seeds a bye.
