The comment was made in a now-locked thread, that the AVCA All American selections "definitely redeemed the atrocious all-mpsf picks this year."
At a simple level, how does someone get an all-league selection and then move to a [glow=red,2,300] higher[/glow] "team" selection for the All American selections???
Moving DOWN is one thing (since there's a bigger pool of players being picked from, but up?)This happened to more than one person this year... it's not like the voters have thousands of players they're choosing from....
Andy Hein (Pepp)..............2nd Team All-MPSF ......1st Team AA Robert Tarr (Long Beach).. 2nd Team All-MPSF ..... 1st Team AA Jonathan Winder (Pepp)... 3rd Team All-MPSF .......2nd Team AA Nils Nielsen (Northridge)... 3rd Team All-MPSF .......2nd Team AA Brian Waite (Northridge)... Hon Men All-MPSF ........2nd Team AA

CSUN coaches and players prob talked with some coaches from the midwest and back east and told them to give there players some votes. Because we all know they didnt deserve that.

Nils Nielsen (Northridge)... 3rd Team All-MPSF .......2nd Team AA Brian Waite (Northridge)... Hon Men All-MPSF ........2nd Team AA Oh man..... I just saw that Jeff Campbell of Northridge was on the AVCA All-American selection committee.... Nielson and Waite's picks sure look a little fishy.... especially with both players getting a higher AA award than All-MPSF

Not that it really matters, but the only reason I can see this happening is from a player who has performed really well outside of their conference. Remember that conference selections are only supposed to be based on how a player performed in their conference. AAs are judged by how they perform in the entire season.
Not saying that I agree or understand what is going on, but just a quick idea to throw out there.

Also, All-AVCA players are chosen more like an all-tournament team imho. In high school and club, all tournament team members are only chosen from the top 8-4 teams. Although there are better players in the 9-~ range, they aren't even considered.

There are more players in the AVCA ALL American 1st team than in the MPSF 1st team.
