Here is a "sleeper" that's not on the list. Garrett Matutia middle blocker from Francis Parker School, in San Diego. The kid never tried out for the High Performance Program. Only a junior however, this Kid could have started on some D1 roster. according to his coach. He was the MVP at the Parker Tournament which included several powerhouses: Loyola, Mira Costa, Newport Harbor, San Clemente, La Costa Canyon. Will join Chase Budinger on the Seaside Club in JO's. 6'6" great skills as a blocker and passer. Tremendous hitter. Samoan background. Will give Seaside a good shot at JO Nationals. High Performance Program missed out on this guy. He will definitely be one of the top five recruits in the country next year. Can play Middle or Right Side. He reminds me of a combination of Delano Thomas and Dave Lee. Thomas atheltic skills with Lee's attitude. Not an academic liability, received a good private school education from Parker. Good family background, father was a Retire Master Chief Seal in the US Navy. That is one hombre you don't want mess here. Ask any Samoan in SoCal and they'll tell you who is father is. Father played on the Interservice (All Armed Forces) Volleyball Team.
The last kid I said was "Money" was Sean Rooney. I think this kid is that good. Which for the Seaside Club Team, they should be doing some damage this year at the JO's.
Remember this Kid. Garrett Matutia from San Diego.

The Kid loves basketball. He played for San Diego Volleyball Club last summer. He was the whole team, and the team when pretty far with what they had.
Last month La Costa played Francis Parker. Both Chase and Garrett played club basketball that weekend, so the two did not go face to face.

Bookum is right on about Garret. This is a very humble young man but a monster on the bball and vball court. Parker has got the best coach in SD (john Herman) and a 8th grade brother who is just as talented (miles). I had heard that Chase and Garret were going to team up and play together in the 18's for Seaside. If they do...look for a big run. If you look up "All-Americans" in the 18's last year, both of these guys made it as sophomores in the 18's! These guys are helping San Diego close the gap on some La/Orange County teams. I say Garret chooses Hawaii and Chase --BB at Arizona

I stand corrected about the SB middie. He is very good and will make that team. I still believe they will keep Schkud as he can doo so many things well. Matthews and Winder will make this team as they make the players around them play better.....Beckwith ......yes a good setter does not.
Bookem, as far as Chase, the USA program is rolling out the red carpet for this kid and they damn well should......but this carpet has to be on a short lease. Chase is the best if not a top 3 offensive and all-around players we have in the Junior and Senior grade level in the country but if he chooses to go basketball, which is looks as if he will (I would) , then focus needs to go elsewhere.
As far as Matutia, I think we need to take a step back for a minute before we canonize this "unproven" young lad. I saw him play and he does have tools but they are not as sharp as you seem to believe in relation to other players in the country......HS ball is way different! . The Seaside team will take a 5th at best this year at JO's and all most all of that load will be carried by Chase. They will not match up teamwise to the top teams.

Changing the focus onto a couple other YNT members, Cory Yoder and Kent Kraushaar, I was at the San Clemente v Woodbridge CIF match Tuesday night where the two went head-to-head in a 5-game thriller (Wood/Kraushaar won 16-14 in Game 5)...
Both teams are pretty solid, but Kraushaar and Yoder were definitely the stars of the game... The LA Times only listed Kraushaar's kills (28), but Yoder looked even more impressive and I feel had more kills than that...
Cory Yoder, son of former USC standout as coach and player Bob Yoder, impressed me in several ways with his hitting: an ability to consistently find the open spots on the court, good top spin that enabled him to hit full-power cross-court angles to the ten-foot line, and also changing up the speed of his swings and hits that kept Woodbridge guessing all night... Despite Yoder being "only" 6'3", his blocking, passing, and team leadership all seemed fairly solid also....
Kraushaar, whose older bro just finished up at UCLA, also showed solid all-around skill, though he did run into a couple streaks where he would be roofed 2-3 plays in a row (usually by Yoder)... It seemed that Kraushaar is more of a hit hard or hit really hard type of guy and didn't finesse the placement as much... at the high school level that can be effective, but that might not work as much in a D1 college setting....
... watch out for both of them as seniors next year!

I have seen both of these guys play and they are both very good. And they will lead Balboa Bay 17's to the Gold medal this year at JO's.

Akbar
I think you're right on Seaside, because there is one glaring weakness on the team and that's at setter. But I think three studs could carry a team far, but not two.
