The AVP could get interesting in the next few weeks with the return of players from overseas and the influx of college talent--Suxho, Rooney, Billings, Gardner could all have an impact on the beach game. Who is the next Nygaard? Rooney could be the prototype of a great blocking teammate: big, clutch player, good arm. He will need several summers on the beach to learn how to deal with the wind. But if he humped it on down to State Beach for a couple of weeks, he could make for an interesting draw to some of the top seeds. Although, I am sure Hugh will have him in the altitude training with US Team in no time at all….

I really don't think anyone smart would want to be the next Nygaard.

Rooney already lost. Equal 57th. Not exactly what he probably had in mind.

So how does this work? While playing college no money can be won....but after college, money does not affect world games or olympics?
Also...in summer tournament, can tee-shirts or trophies be accepted without affecting college players?

Also...in summer tournament, can tee-shirts or trophies be accepted without affecting college players? Something like that. He is no longer eligble to play college volleyball, so he can accept as much money playing volleyball professionally as he wants. Obviously, it has no bearing on his college status as he can't play anymore. The Olympic teams (and I think the World Game teams) are composed of the national team. The national team players train on professional teams all over the world and can be a professional and compete. For the summer, I think there is a rule that allows players to participate in certain beach volleyball tournaments and win t-shirts and tropheys. The idea behind the rule is that indoor volleyball and beach volleyball are not the same sport. Again, there are limits behind the rule and most coaches will let a player know what they can and cannot do.

Jeff Nygaard is a nice guy. It's not that people don't like him, but more a feeling that he has never reached his potential - either indoor or on the beach.
On the beach especially, some of the SoCal natives still see Jeff as the ultimate Wisconsin Cheesehead. Some of that attitude probably comes from frustration because 'ole Cheesehead wins beach tourneys every year, including the recent AVP/Santa Barbara with Dax Holdren.

Three Olympics on the AVP tour national championship at UCLA? How is this not reaching your potential?

Any thoughts on Rooney making the team for the NORCECA qualifier this August?

Any thoughts on Rooney making the team for the NORCECA qualifier this August? I understand he is not trying out for the NT this summer. Probably taking time off from the indoor game.
