Wow, that is a loss. He was right up there with Gonzalez and it was a big drop off after those two.

Gabby's a good guy and is really well liked at UCLA. It's quite unfortunate about his father. I have a lot of respect for someone who puts family first like he is doing. Everyone wishes him all the best.

Too bad on the situation. It is a real shame for UCLA. He really kept UCLA in the title hunt after Gonzalez went down with an injury. He did a really nice job running and offense. UCLA better hope Gonzalez can set for the entire season or another one of the setters steps up his game. They need a good back up setter to help carry them in 2006.

Translation: Dude could not cut the academic work load and decided to play in the Puerto Rican Pro League. "It is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." -- Mark Twain You, sir, have just removed all doubt. It's rather obvious you know nothing of what happened at all.

While he stated it rather harshly, as I read the article that's what I got out of it, too. The issue with his father seemed to be reinforcement of his decision, not the primary reason for leaving. He ended up taking just one class in the spring? That sounds like an academic issue to me!

If you can't hack it at school then you don't get to play volleyball for the best volleyball school in the US. Don't blame other issues when this is clearly the case. This just opens up opportunities for kids that care about being a scholar athlete.

Perhaps someone out there knows the answer. If Acevedo is taking just one class, doesn't that make him ineligible to play? I thought students had to be enrolled full-time to compete.
