24-07-2005 FRIENDSHIP TOUR: UNITED STATES - ARGENTINA
The Argentinean National Team was defeated again by the United States.
The United States dominated the game. Argentina fell again before the United States in the second friendly match of the tour that both had agreed on and that is carried out in the interior of the country. The visiting squad won once more with 3-1. (25-22, 27-29, 25-21 and 25-22) and they walked away with the “Provincialización de Formosa Cup” awarded by the Governor of Formosa, Gildo Isfrán, and the Secretary of National Sports, Claudio Morresi.
Fabián Armoa played the same six starters as in the match in Resistencia, while McCutcheon didn't have much of a choice since he continues to have only seven players.
The beginning was even, with the North Americans dominating the action with a very good defense and solid blocking. On the other hand Argentina countered with the game from the center, with Porporato and Peralta playing big. But little by little, the visitors advanced the score to reach a definitive advantage in the game.
In the second game the locals maintained a score advantage for the first time in the match, but without being able to hold on to the lead they had to struggle to hold on to this game.
In the third game the American dominance was very obvious. The great defense of Salmon widened the score differential with Argentina who could not find the rhythm without having to attack several times to score.
The hope began to rise at the beginning of the fourth game, with a lead of 5-0 and with a very good blocking, mainly when Porporato, Bernasconi and Giani were at the net. But again they allowed the rival that take over the competition from a 16-11 lead to a 20:20 tie, in large part due to the defense of Salmon and an excellent block by Toppel and Eatherton.
Thus, the North Americans took the second match and the Argentineans have to wait for the competition that will be fought in the city of Córdoba in order to be able to take revenge and to try to turn the series in their favor.
