You think Obama won't run? Because if he does, there is no way Clinton would run against him. You're right, if Obama runs, she won't run. Guess we'll just see how the next 31/2 years go for him. He's a smooth talker - I'll give him that. I've read that every incumbant president who was left unchallenged for their party's nomination has been reelected. Carter was challenged Kennedy. Bush I was challenged by Buchannan, etc. I don't recall if there was an exception or a caveat but its something to keep in mind. I believe that Obama's kryptonite is going to be the economy. The republicans have said that Obama is jeopardizing us internationaly, that he's blowing the economy and that he is going to get us killed. If the economy doesn't recover, but we are generally viewed as being safe, the case will be made that Obama goofed, but Hillary was keeping us safe through her international relationships and she'll have some new idea to fix the economy that will get her elected president. If the economy recovers we'll reelect Obama and if we aren't safe, I bet we'll elect someone else entirely.

Palin must have a huge amount of influence over all of you and the media because....despite a horrible, offensive, remark made by an insulting dirty old man to get a cheap laugh,...this issue again turns into Palins fault that her young teenage daughter was picked out by an aging comedian to be the subject of a joke. Are you all kidding me? His comment was in such horrible poor taste.... that he should have been fired. I can guarantee that if the comment would have been about the Obama children in that context.... Letterman would have been fired. Can you say Double Standard. Hypocrites.

I accept that Letterman's clarification (that his joke was meant to describe 18 year old Bristol Palin) was genuine. Bristol already has a history of A) being in the spotlight and B) being a poster child for unwed motherhood. And certainly it was in poor taste, but that's the nature of much late night talk shows.

I am sorry Bear but that is just not good enough. If you ran for office and some sleezeball said a comment about your early teen daughter similar to Lettermans......would that be the nature of the beast? There are SOME THINGS in this world that should be out of bounds and totally unacceptable . Stop making excuses all of you for the downward spiral and degradation of these young girls by old men that should know better.

Well, given the fact that Letterman continues to make reference to this incident in roundabout ways shows me that he'll continue to milk it for ratings. Other than an occasionally funny Top Ten List, I don't really like his show. And I'm not convinced that all the weirdness that pops up from time to time on his show (i.e. Madonna, Farah Fawcett, Joaquin Phoenix, etc.) isn't staged.
I hope Conan does well. I like watching him better, anyway.

It looks silly on you, especially after Palin herself has already accepted the apology.

holiday, on what basis are you making the claim that Letterman is "a dirty old man" and how do you justify making that claim while on the high horse? I'd argue that part of the reason people are willing to cut him some slack, besides the sheer volume of jokes he's responsible for, is the fact there has been no indication that he IS a dirty old man.
Btw, such a comment made about Obama's children would be different, seeing how young they are. I agree that the fact Bristol is 18 doesn't move it out of the poor taste category, but you have to admit it's a different joke if the children are as young as the Obama children, no?

More hypocrisy from Ruffda. I guess a horrible lewd comment like that does become acceptable and Ok since its about a 14 year old....oops...I mean a 18 year old. After all....I guess when a young girl turns 18, the respect for women stops. Thank you for explaining that Ruff.

It was never about a 14-year-old. Letterman would not tell such a joke about a 14-year-old.
holiday, don't get so personal about this. I think I've made it clear what I think/thought about the joke. It was not fair to A-Rod either. It also, when you look at it, doesn't make any sense. It's only funny because of how absurd it is. But, in retrospect, it was in very poor taste.
See the other thread. No point in my repeating myself here. But, really, do I really deserve your comments about hypocrisy?

Considering your defending of some subjects that are your political pets, and your defamation of other subjects that lean to the right...do you really think my comment about hypocrisy was unfair or unfounded?
