In a newsroom, historically the sports desk is the most conservative part of the newspaper. A sportswriter told me that because sports are a meritocratic activity they are a more natural fit into the worldview of a conservative. The economics of volleyball leave little room for the poor, so most people I talk to assume that the volleyball community is of a higher income level than society at large. The more someone pays in taxes the more likely they are to side with the more conservative candidate. Considering these two factoids (ideas, assumptions, whatever) I was pretty surprised when I realized a few months back that the members Volleytalk's offthenet community are probably 2-3 times more likely to be on the left then on the right. For those of you who have been around longer, has it always been like this? Does anyone have a theory as to why VT would be atypical? One factor is you don’t know how many screen names (R)uffda is posting under. My advice: Let (R)uffda/Schadenfreude/tenniscraze/etc control this portion of the blog. Not a good use of time.

nittany, you hypocrite. You and I both know who else you are on here (at least, I hope you know).
Tenniscraze? Are you kidding me? Where do you get that? What on earth makes you think I'm tenniscraze?
I knew you were pouting. Thanks for admitting it.
I really don't understand your fascination with this topic. Aren't you going to bring up Frieda and Doppelganger, too?
P.S. "(R)uffda!" isn't a real person. You know that, right?

GGBill-I agree with you on most of your points, espescially at the beginning.
I wouldn't say the government is more corrupt than Unions or Business...I would lump them into the same category. There are some that due good things and some that are fairly corrupt.
I would also un-lump teachers unions for the most part as they are in far worse shape than most union groups are.
Dividing & splitting...nothing new, but you also left out the classic distraction tactic that's been going on since the Roman Empire with the circus to present day with $300 tax rebates.
The government can grab power for the same reason a "truly representative" government wouldn't work. Most people don't care, and they will take the path that allows them to be bothered the least.

Lw..
I think most people do care.but indeed are LAZY..or want someone else to FIX IT.
It is interesting to note the same people who opposed THE WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY policies of wiretapping and so called terrorism tactics never utter a peep when their party leaders they supported continue the same policies.
Worst yet ..They voted on Principle.. a noteworthy idea ...then blast Palin..or conservative talk people when their elected officials screw everyone over.
The congress allowed a President to overthrow bankruptcy law..take over a private business without hearings or objections.?
If the New York YANKEES lose money and want a bailout will America buy Baseball? GREAT..Control wages ..linked to production.. Lower cost and ticket prices.. Get rid of scum bag owners...
Teacher unions..fail as in Calif. Take over teacher Unions? Force unions to take a cut in pay... lower cost to show production vs. pay. Get rid of crappy non productive teachers and administators. Lower cost...?
I wonder why he didn't take over teacher Unions? and save education...like he wants to do with HEALTH CARE?
crickets ..my sheep..
Pay to play..

GGBill...maybe I used the phrase "don't care" without the necessary limiters of "enough" or "more than they care about not having to spend time trying to make it better"
Agreed on some more points...hate hypocrites...and I bash any idiot regardless of race, creed, or party.
Most presidents change or remove some law...and people don't care what he does as long as they think he can make it better (see Patriot Act)
Speaking of the Yankees...when is the MLB finally gonna get smart and get a salary cap.
Teachers...get rid of no child left behind and I'll be happy (so will they)
You should listen to the Bob & Tom song (well, they play the song) Obamaman.

Congress could have blocked the patriot act..they didn't.
They could have blocked the take over of GM and AIG and Banks..
they didn't.
They could have blocked no child left behind..they didn't.
I just make you look stupid.
so easy a caveman can do it..

I just make you look stupid. so easy a caveman can do it.. no you didn't...congress falls under the category of people (although you have to use the definition loosely for some of them). Therefor the fall under my original premise. On another note...their jobs rely (at least partially) on their voters, who are also people, and fall under the my previous statement also for keeping them happy.

Sorry ..that doesn't cut it..
I would never vote against principle or the constitution in order to get my parties blessing or win ANOTHER election.
That is 1 of the reasons for term limits. Keep people HONEST and prohibit big money influences from outside sources from influencing elections.
It's called BACK BONE here in the country.

I never said you would...just that a lot of people have done it and will do it. Term limits are a nice idea, but they hardly due the job you attribute to them.
