Last year the average ticket at Torrey Pines cost $186. This year at BP On Long island...(home of your fightin' blackbirds of VB..) they cost $ 86. Golf sold 2x as many tickets this year as last.
Proving again that economics works..
More $ made at cheaper rates.
Ticket prices are just the start of any golf experience or any sporting day. add parking...programs...food ..drink..motel rooms ..
More people = more money .
lets say Calif. and NEW YORK ( which is considering a fast food tax of $ 2.00 )
LOWERED THE TAX RATE.. creating more people coming to and staying in or vacationing in your state.
Lets say you lowered all the tax rates..the people would have more MONEY to spend thus they would.
Stimulating Business that provided the most bang for the buck.
Simple..mm
THINK Republican..

I would like to see Hugo Chavez nationalize the Golf industry. He likes to think he's a driver but really his economy is just putt-putting along.

Heck, do you even know if the area in Cal had enough hotel rooms to accomodate the larger crowd? Shoot, could the golf course itself even accomodate a larger crowd? How much more infrastructure would it have taken? Even given your numbers, all I see is that the USGA got about 8% more revenue last year than this. Man you are shortsighted. Did you know the Cubs and Red Sox have the highest ticket prices in Major League Baseball? Moreover, they also have among the smallest average attendance. Maybe they should just lower their ticket prices...

It is complicated all on its own, without any of my help. Bill, OTOH, is way oversimplifying it. Bill is the one claiming to have the answer. I am just pointing out that to know the things he is claiming to know requires that he know all this other stuff, too. I won't call it "contrarian", I will call it "Calling his bluff." Or "Pointing out that he is talking out of his arse."

If I ever have a lobotomy, that's probably exactly what I will do. While my mental faculties remain intact, I'll skip being a "Ditto Head."

P-dub writes quote.. "Even given your numbers, all I see is that the USGA got about 8% more revenue last year than this."
mmm..One of the OTHER rules of debate is to let your opponent make your point.. Thanks. 8% increase is better than GM and many other business and sport franchises are doing.
"Why does the USGA care about whether local restauraunts and hotels make more money?"
Because without public support and Business sponsorship the game LESSENS or tournaments vanish completely. A community NEEDS TO WANT a tournament for it to happen.
"Did you know the Cubs and Red Sox have the highest ticket prices in Major League Baseball? Moreover, they also have among the smallest average attendance. Maybe they should just lower their ticket prices..."
Along with the YANKEES..and all ask for and receive taxpayer subsidies...for stadium, cable and TV revenues and other tax specials.
"Bill, OTOH, is way oversimplifying it."
I keep it simple so many of you can PLAY along. Sometimes.. in fact most of the time..the simplest, easiest answer is the correct one.
"Bill is the one claiming to have the answer. I am just pointing out that to know the things he is claiming to know requires that he know all this other stuff, too. I won't call it "contrarian", I will call it "Calling his bluff." Or "Pointing out that he is talking out of his arse."
I just made a point that is SIMPLE economic theory. Sell more product at a lower price= more profit..ala WALMART. Government would do well to LEARN THESE LESSONS AGAIN. BOTH PARTYS. MAYBE some of the so called smarter liberal elite?
I KNOW OBAMA is a fraud. that is not a bluff..and I am typing, not using my major BUTT muscles.
New York and Calif . certainly dont know economics any better than me... so instead of insulting yourself..post some reply that rebuffs my statement..
qc writes.."While my mental faculties remain intact, I'll skip being a "Ditto Head."
GOOD for you...try being a FISCAL:conservative first and not want a bigger ,more inept government telling you how to live.
You wont even need GOD for that.. Amen.
