Volleyball Warriors Win A Pair Of Exhibition Matches Against British Columbia
Recap Date: 10/07/05 The University of Hawai`i men's volleyball squad took a pair of exhibition matches today against the University of British Columbia, winning 3-1 in the first match in the morning and completing the sweep with a five-set victory tonight.
"Everybody played pretty well today," Head Coach Mike Wilton said, "considering we had only eight practices under out belt and it's October 7th." No individual stats were kept in the first match played at St. George High School, as UH won the first match in four and then finished off the nightcap with a 25-23, 17-25, 25-12, 29-31, 15-7 win.
"We mixed up our squad today as everybody played," Wilton said. "Brian (Beckwith) did the setting in the first match, while Sean Carney set the second match."
It was a Homecoming of sorts for senior outside hitter Matt Carere, who hails from Victoria, B.C., Canada. Coach Wilton said that Carere had a legion of fans come out to the matches to cheer on the Warriors.
UH drives 3 1/2 hours tomorrow to Okanagan University in Kelowna to battle the University of British Columbia again at both 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Warriors swept a 3-game scrimmage in an early after match and then went four games in the feature match of the night, winning 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.
